in 2013, in an ARTPOP interview she said that she didn't pick Applause as her first single cause her label picks her singles.

Yeah, she has always been back and forth about who gets to decide the singles and about her own power. But it was very well known that the label prefered Dance in the Dark over Alejandro, and Gaga won. Are you telling me she has less control today than she had during TFM days? Seriously, it is very clear 80% of what Gaga says is bullshit.

what if that was a one time thing? and what if that just wasn't very true? What if the label wasn't sure and let her decide for once. Or the label wanted Alejandro and she wanted DITD and she just acted like it was her decision all along? I mean we don't really know what goes on behind closed doors, we can only assume, but since she said she "never chooses her singles" in said interview, I thought that she had said the truth but with Gaga you never know:emma:

No it should NOT have been. MR was the best choice

A-NO stans shouldn't get cocky just yet because I'm sure if it was the single now, it wouldn't do so well

Basically, you're right on this  and once a long time ago I thought she was one of the most honest pop stars out there. She has contradicted herself so many times...

Gaga clearly... needs a good team that actually knows what they want.

I think the team's decisions are also dependent on Gaga though

If she really wanted a-yo so much i think she would've stuck with it since "She's the boss" As for venus i don't think it would've done well on radio or even have become as successful as DWUW would've if it had a video

If A-Yo would've stayed as the 2nd single, people would be complaining that they should've changed it to Million Reasons because it's "underperforming" or MR is more "Radio-friendly". Whatever Gaga does, people and especially fans will complain.

As far as I remember, you were all here like "OMG Million ReasoNz is slAyyying iTunez, change it pls".

I like AYO. I heard it on the radio when it was originally sent out. It just played well on radio. That being said, I feel like she's had equal passion for Million Reasons? The video is good, it makes sense out of PI and has a strong message (quote me if you want me to explain further...).

The only one I agree with is Venus. I actually like DWUW and think it could've slayed as a single if it had a video, but her team making the last minute decision to pull Venus, which was already heavily planned, and giving her so little time to plan for DWUW was such an awful decision. I'd say I think DWUW aged better than Venus, but still...what they did would've hurt any single regardless of quality.

MR was the perfect choice for this time of year. Ballads do better in the winter. A-Yo just didn't suit this season. That doesn't mean it'll never become a single with its own video (I could totally see that happening next year) but I think putting out the right single at the right time of year counts for something. But I do agree with what you're saying. Gaga's choices repeatedly get stamped on if the promo single does better. Plenty of other artists can have 2 hits simultaneously, but she can't, the public only seems to take to one Gaga single at a time. With that in mind, her label go for the one that's getting the better response. It makes sense from a business standpoint but not from an artistic standpoint. Indeed, it means her ideas and planned imagery are halted and the next video may not be as good because her heart isn't in it. Obviously, the video for MR wasn't planned as it turned out so that explains why it seems a bit rushed and like this storyline was added in last minute. As much as I like it, it would have been interesting to see how she would have fared if she'd had more time to spend on making it just the way she wanted it.

just another gay

DWUW was doing actually not bad with that little promo she did

the GP reacts to it well too, I only blame Terry Richardson for the never-released MV

I believe AYO will be the next single...I mean she needs a upbeat funky song for EVERYONE to dance to at SB...JW is cool but AYO is the only one that can appeal to the GP.....  (forget DH and DIC)
