Peaches has had moderate success in the UK with her early singles charting in the Top 50/Top 40 regions. In 2009, Peaches released her "I Feel Cream" album to little success. None of the singles were as successful, the album didn't chart and it shaped up to be her least successful era of her career. So what do you guys think? Did it deserve more recognition?

(Btw sorry if this is in the wrong section, my first thread lol) <3

Is this album supposed to be considered as a mainstream pop album? All of her other albums are very eclectic and would never be played on the radio, so I don't see why this one would be any different.

Yes.

was she trying to break out of her usual style into mainstream pop? I think people just don't take her that way.

Since she started working with other producers, most notably Greg Kurstin, she tried breaking into the mainstream scene. It worked with songs off her third album like "Downtown" and "Boys Wanna Be Her". However, it didn't really work with I Feel Cream. It's kind of weird because her least mainstream album (RUB, released late last year) had more success than I Feel Cream, with the track "Vaginoplasty" going semi-viral.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is... This album is obviously thematically different from her other albums. It's not as shocking/explicit content-wise. Was she trying to ditch that persona to be a more radio-friendly act? RUB seems to go back to her old style.

I personally feel that she ditched the "act" unintentionally. There's still crude lyrics in the majority of the songs. The hook of Billionaire is just "**** you like a billionaire". However, with songs like Lose You, Talk To Me and I Feel Cream (coincidentally the album's three singles) it seems like she's singing from the heart and not being the same as people know her. RUB definitely was a return to old-style Peaches with songs like Sick In The Head, Vaginoplasty and Rub. But it did have the same genre and style as I Feel Cream, which ditched the whole electro-clash genre and traded it for electronica/pop.

I do feel that RUB was sort of forced, though. With songs like **** In The Air (obviously a sequel to her song Shake Yer Dix) being repetitive and just plain annoying. The lyrics sounded like they were written by an 11 year old kid. The rap is just immature "balls and ****, two balls and one ****. Balls, balls, ****, ****". Peaches' old music got straight to the point, while still being in good taste. RUB is a good album, don't get me wrong, but it seemed really forced and it was in quite poor taste.
