Devils advocate here but couldn't you say it's your (generally speaking) interpretation of it that actually creates the racism here?

It could be she referred to her as an ape to mean she is big and broard rather than skin colour. However if your first thought is to equate ape to black people then that in itself speaks wonders?

Again devil's advocate.  I'm impartial.

Calling a black person a primate has been historically a racial slur in the United States though. So it is a racial slur.

It's not just against her looks which by the way she shouldn't put that stuff on social media, it was a RACIST remark.

Not necessarily. She could have said that because of her kinda masculine body or because of her face characteristics.

It's a racist remark  My black friends have all told me that being called a monkey, ape, etc. is a racial slur.

I've heard many times the phrase "he looks like an ape" for white people so that's just a thought.

The woman that insulted Michelle also said "Monkey face and poor ebonic English!!! There! I feel better and am still not racist!!! Just calling it like it is!"  So it could easily be about her beng ugly and not her being black

Blacks being called a primate has been historically shown to be a racial slur

Υeah it can be a racial slur but it's not necessary that she meant it that way

the woman is stupid if she doesn't know that she is being racist.

I have black friends and they also said that being called a primate is a racial slur.
