dlioncourt91 765
She told the truth. She was one of the lucky ones to not fall under public hands of breaking down, to addiction, murder or self-destructing. She isn't gloating but saying she's grateful and appreciative of her peers and giving them credit for their work while also stating she's fortunate she didn't succumb to any of those things. The things people do to try to drag her is beyond me.
Haroon 49,685
Out of context yeah it seemed pretty bad, like I came into this thread expecting to be like "Madonna what are you doing " but after reading up and watching I'm more like "Ahh I see ". I think her comment is more towards pointing out how dangerous the public can be and what their comments can cause and lead to, rather than being like "lol sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" Outside of that part which really does come down to interpretation and can seem quite out of order, I thought her speech was amazing and very powerful
Bradley 58,664
She might be a great performer but she has a super arrogant attitude. That was a deliberate attempt at placing herself amongst the artists whom people consider as legends. Yes Madonna is an accomplished artist but to put herself on that league is just... cocky imo. I actually don't think she has a great voice at all, what I can give her credit for is the production of her music and her stage theatrics, which a lot of artists are able to do nowadays. 666 others 1,856
"There are no rules, if you're a boy. If you're a girl, you have to play the game...You're allowed to be pretty and cute and sexy, but don't act too smart. Don't have an opinion. Don't have an opinion that is out of line with the status quo, at least. You're allowed to be objectified by men, and dressed like a slut, but don't own your sluttiness, and do not, I repeat, do not share your own sexual fantasies with the world. "Be what men want you to be, but more importantly, be what women feel comfortable with you being around other men. And finally, do not age, because to age is a sin. You'll be criticized, you'll be vilified, and you will definitely not be played on the radio. "I was called a ***** and a witch. One headline compared me to Satan. And I said, 'Wait a minute, isn't Prince running around with fishnets and high heels and lipstick with his butt hanging out?' Yes, he was, but he was a man." I don't always agree with you Madonna, but I'm moved by this speech. As a woman with an opinion in a men's world I understand exactly where you are coming from. Thank you for sticking around, thank you for refusing to give up and thank you for saying all these things loud, clear and unambiguously. Respect. OT: The title is somewhat misleading. :holyshit:

666 others 1,856
Her whole speech was very heartfelt and powerful imo. Unfortunate choice of words for this particular sentence. And of course people will focus on that and that only (because controversy), and her overall message will be ignored and lost. :holyshit:
Anveeroy 59,227
Listen Madonna is a mega superstar. She shaped pop music. If she will gone everyone will be sad and music industry will lose a gem. So don't be so rude. Don't forget our mother monster loves David Bowie, Prince and Madonna Stream Kylie-Janet Discographies! En_Sabah_Nur 9,359
Madonna can have a lot of attitude & be totally arrogant when she wants to be. But THIS is not one of those times. She meant no harm(I don't think), and honestly I have said the same exact thing a few times in the past myself. My only dispute with what she said, was that she should have been more specific if she was going to bring this whole entire subject up. Almost all of the BIG musical artists from HER era & afterwards are gone now... Because a lot of the BIG artist from decades prior to Madonna(Cher, Elton, Diana, Aretha, Patti, Gene, Stevie, Paul, Debbie, etc.) are still here & kicking! Egypt. Artists these days try to replicate the theatrics because they saw the potential with the help of MJ, Madonna, etc. Flyin' like a 1000 Doves

Read carefully. I was commenting on her act of putting herself on that same league as other legends as being cocky. It wasn't about her accomplishments, it was about her lack of modesty and humbleness. Even if Gaga knew how far her accomplishments are she wouldn't boast it in front of the public. Yeah I give Madonna credit for that but even if speaking of stage theatrics and performance skills, she's no match for Beyonce, or even Gaga in terms of charisma and stage presence. I know she dances but she doesn't look as confident or fierce as her contemporaries are.

The Neon Demon 115
People are far too harsh on her. She is critisized for absolutely everything. She has a great career etc but it's never been plain sailing and she could've easily been limited had she listened to people.
