Stuff like reaction videos and whatnot, to me makes nonsense to ban that, its promotion

Ā

But if with the amount of content put out youtube only paid a billion in royalties thats really low

Ā

but of course to fix that, either ads will have to increase or youtube would have to stop being free so i dunno šŸ‘€

Yea it's difficult. I think YouTube could afford to up the amount they pay in royalties, and I think they should, but the copyright law part of this should be left alone. The second YouTube can be held accountable for everything uploaded to it's site they will just stop allowing uploads like that all together- which will seriously damage artist's platforms.

The current system of removing copyrighted material on request is much better IMO, because you can take out the offenders while leaving all the reasonable content (reactions, covers, short snippets etc) alone. Ā

Well $1 Billion for the many songs thousands of artists put out?

Ā

Shesh that actually is low. Break it down and each artist is getting nothing. Maybe the really viewed like Justin Bieber and Rihanna get half a decent check out of this but everyone else :awkney:Ā

Actually record labels take a huge amount of the money. So artists should be going for record labels throats not YouTube's.Ā

Nah, don't like this way of thinking.

It's like telling a woman/minority to find a different job if they don't like being paid less than a man in the same position. They shouldn't move, they should fight against it.

Plus, YouTube needs those artists to survive. If everyone pulled from YouTube, there would be a big decrease in viewership.

What is gaga doing. That woman don't even get money from any sort of streaming, only physical sales.Ā :ladyhaha:

Not even the sales of the album. They only really get real earnings from touring

But didn't the article say YouTube gave record labels 84% of the money? You Tube gotta make some money too for themselves.Ā

Okay I Made A MistakeĀ :saladga:. It's Actually Spotify That Does That.Ā

And it is clear that Google is extremely unlikely to emulate Spotify, as the latter paid a massive 84% of its total revenues back to the music industry last year. Such move would make YouTube a completely unsustainable business.
