On a humanitarian basis it’s a very tough situation. We’re going to work something out that’s going to make people happy and proud. But that’s a very tough situation.” “They got brought here at a very young age, they’ve worked here, they’ve gone to school here,” he added. “Some were good students. Some have wonderful jobs. And they’re in never-never land because they don’t know what’s going to happen.” The magazine notes that the president-elect did not back away from a vow to endthe Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, which President Barack Obama started in 2012 to grant work permits and temporary reprieve to certain young undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children. That plan ― and the fact that as president, Trump could have access to the names and addresses of current DACA recipients ― has caused terror within the undocumented community. Thus far, more than 740,000 Dreamers have received DACA. Even if Trump technically rescinded DACA, anything he might do to protect Dreamers ― if that’s what he means by “work something out” ― would risk breaking campaign promises. Sparing them as a rule from deportation or extending their work permits would be DACA by another name. We feel like if he succeeds, then all the bigotry he stood for will prevail too. So basically half of America is destroying this country with bigotry, and the other half wants to see America fail to counteract that bigotry. That's so unhealthy. Honestly we might be screwed. There's a HUGE difference between wanting Trump to fail and wanting America to fail. Trump is NOT America. In fact, any success on his part will likely be a huge failure for the American people. I want Trump to fail on enacting his policies, which will prevent our nation from failing. If Trump succeeds in pushing his agenda, our country will be pushed back decades both in economic and social policy and our progress will be ruined.
