Hillary Clinton‘s popular vote lead of more than 2.6 million over Donald Trump has led some lawmakers to explore Electoral College overhaul.

That's just unacceptable. How ****ed up must the system be when one candidate gets 2.6 million more votes than the other yet still manages to lose. I hope that the members of the college can see that most people want Clinton and vote for her instead of Trump, although I highly doubt they'll award it to Clinton in the end.

The Electoral College needs to be abolished in favour of a simple majority vote where every vote counts, because under this system, they don't.

We've certainly had bigger leads in the popular vote in the past, but in those cases, they've always won the electoral vote.

With a lead as big as this, it's still interesting to see that Trump won. It's going to be interesting to see how this election will shape future ones. It's certainly going to go down in history.

Sort of a side note, it's interesting that some people are saying that the "Silent majority stands with Trump", like, that's just factually wrong. Obviously the majority stands with Hillary, but the E.C. system favored Trump.

I'm perched to see what happens when Trump actually does end up winning. Not that I want it but it should be entertaining for a few days at least.

The last time a candidate won the college but lost the popular vote was when Bush won in 2000. He lost to Al Gore by 500,000 votes and on his inauguration day, protesters pelted his limo with rocks, eggs, and the like as they chanted stuff about him not being their choice.

I'm expecting that but 100 fold. As long as no one actually gets hurt, it'll be nice to see Trump really soaking in all that presidential love

OT: I love that George is aware that Hillary is not going to be president even if the electors choose her. The GOP controls the house and the house decides in the end. We'll have a Republican president regardless because our democracy is a lie  Republics have their benefits but I say it's high time we overhaul the whole thing and implement a direct democracy where the people actually have the power, not just those that find slummy ways of cheating themselves to the top (gerrymandering, oppressing votes, greasing palms, etc).

Anyway, It's a long shot but I'm pulling for Kasich. I can't get over the GOP voters snubbing him during the primaries even though he was the only candidate that was remotely ready for office on their side

It's shocking that she lost despite having such a huge lead on him popular vote wise. Such sad to see The Lion(The Elephant's nemesis) go down, even if she gets into off, which will be hard for her since the Republicans are going to run everything, it'll be hard to get a bill past. But I'm sure after the whole groping scandle lots of Republicans favor Clinton over Trump.

You think they didn't think of this during the framing of the Constitution?  of course they considered a simple popular vote... and ruled it out as inappropriate.

America is a completely different place now. Just because it's in the constitution doesn't mean that it's still a good idea. These days, depending on what state you're in, your vote could be worth more or less than votes in other states. For instance, in California,  your vote isn't really worth much, as in it won't have much of an impact, as California is a certain blue state. However, if you're in a swing state such as Florida where the votes are often very close, your vote will have a much greater impact on the outcome.

The result is that people in the swing states pretty much decide who wins the election, and the votes of others don't really matter. However in a popularity vote all votes are worth the same so everyone gets equal representation.
