Its cringy, not very understandable and honestly the production is cheesy

I was like that too when I first listen, and my opinion hasn't change a lot about it, but now I like it :music:

Anyway, I skip it sometimes when it appears when I'm listening music. :flop:

Where Diamond Heart is her past leading up to her becoming famous, I see A-YO as being about her rise to fame and how she quickly blew up and dominated pop culture (smokin' em all).

ALSO: i've created a storyline for the whole album but it's definitely a reach don't @ me. Joanne is about her struggling to maintain a relationship with her dad through the fame, John Wayne is about falling for Taylor (which can be seen as rooted in her daddy issues), Dancin' In Circles is about having to create a fantasy relationship because her fame isn't letting them have a fully realized one, PI is realizing the deep rooted problems with her relationships that she needs to address, MR is about praying for healing in those relationships, Sinner's Prayer is about realizing how her relationship with Taylor was rooted in her issues with her father and breaking it off because it's toxic (she compares her relationship to her sister's for this reason), Come to Mama could be about either her relationship with her own mother OR her finding strength in the healing relationships around her. Hey Girl is going back to your roots and catching up with old friends. Angel Down is about wanting to bring that healing to others. Girigio Girls is a bonus track because it adds to that healing narrative but isn't quite tied in or as necessary. And Just Another Day is her carrying on with her life as a strengthened woman.

I don't think you're reaching. Love your storyline for it, I picked up the same meanings but I couldn't see stories in a linear way but this makes sense.

Same in Sinner's Prayer. Whose heart is she trying to break? What happened at Daddy's feast? Who was there, what was said? Why did she put her sisters bf on blast? Does she wanna break his heart too? IDGI

I thought that line was about when he gave her the engagement ring. Wasn't it at dinner at her dads restaurant ? She had kind of hinted at xmas that her and Taylor had decided to marry or maybe there was a proposal without a ring and I think that night was when they made it official with a ring infront her family, hence it was a scene for everyone but she saw it coming. I don't know though about the sister part.

It's a diss track to the haters in general. She's saying that she can't wait to leave the haters in the dust. Not worry about people arguing whether she's a fad or not, whether she's talented, attractive, crazy, etc. It's a "You wanna hate this song because you hate on me, but you can't because it's catchy as hell. I got you under my spell" thing. At least that's how I see it. The chorus is saying just that as well.

Get off on me, my body's got you pleadin' (Haters trash talking her body on when her weight fluctuates. Her body is in ridiculous shape for the Joanne era so how I see it is she's essentially feeling confident in her body right now. She's worked hard for how she looks right now and she knows she looks good.)

Light me up and breathe in (She's saying she's like a ciggarette. Addictive. Peer pressure in a sense. Like c'mon man you know you love this song, just take a listen)

Mirror on the ceilin' (I guess again breeding off of the newly aquired view of confidence in her appearance?)

A-yo, a-yo
We smokin' 'em all
A-yo, a-yo
We smokin' 'em all
A-yo, a-yo
We smokin' 'em all
A-yo, a-yo
(And this whole bottom section is just a re-iteration of the song. Like "Hey you! Don't let the haters get you down. We're going to leave them in the dust with how awesome we are")

That must be the hardest part. It's so cryptic. :oprah:

The song isn't about The Chainsmokers... 💀

I think it's about being fierce regardless of the criticism you might face.

It is also about getting your detractors to like you.

It's a "**** the haters" kind of song. I have my own interpretation of the mirror on the ceiling line. Though it is most likely referring to the sexual meaning, I interpreted it as part of the concept of "smoke and mirrors." Almost as if she's denying the rumors the haters make up about her. "Mirror on the ceiling" meaning like "out of control". Idk, just my initial thoughts.

We've gone to the fourth dimension with lyrics, it seems.  It's like listening to an inside joke.  It's not funny, it's just confusing.
