Katie14 4,828
Gaga said she has Complex PTSD which is actually the most severe form of PTSD. I originally thought she used the word "complex" to mean that a lot of things led to her disorder or something like that but I looked it up and its actually a form of PTSD. I had mentioned to some friends that for the Joanne tour I wanted all of us to wear tshirts said that said "little monster for life and I'll put my paws up until my last breath" as a way to show our support for her. My friend Justin just kinda looked at me like "we'll look so out of place." No we won't. The point is showing that we're monsters for life. Part of that is lifting up the person who has lifted us up for so many years. The bond we have has no end. It's eternal. Even though we've gone from little monsters to fully fledged monsters, Gaga will always see us as the littke monsters she so lovingly "raised" in a way. I love you monsters. I'd be unfixably broken without you
giskardsb 12,565
this is why you don't just make base judgements or comments like "is she on drugs" or "she doesn't work hard enough and is lazy" or "why is she trying to be normal" or "Gaga is always playing the victim" without understanding the backstory. Important life lesson here for the easily judgmental monsters among us.
SummerGirl21 787
This is the kind of pain I assumed she had been feeling over the years and the reason for a lot of change in her spirit. I'm so glad to see she is getting help. I'm so proud to be a fan of someone who is so open about her struggles because she wants others to know they are not alone. mrlemon 577
this is so sad, especially since it took her so long to reveal it to the world Gaga, Ke$ha, and Ava

She taught me that unconditional love does exist and when you find someone that gives it to you, hold on to them for dear life. She's the closest thing I've ever had to a mom. I'll always be thankful for that I love you monsters. I'd be unfixably broken without you
Glitterngrease 482
I really appreciate that she's trying to fight the stigma attached to mental illness. I suffer from a few chronic mental illnesses myself and lately have been trying to get back to work, and it's so hard because I can't bear to tell anyone why I've been off for 3 years. The shame and isolation makes everything feel impossible at times.
SilkSpectre0 547
This made me so emotional. She is so eloquent and it's amazing to have someone bringing PTSD out into the light, the stigma is so bad because trauma is so surrounded in shame and secrecy. I'm so glad she has good doctors who are teaching her about the relationship between the relationship between the brain and body so she can pass this on to others. PTSD is usually misdiagnosed at first or mistaken as solely depression or anxiety caused by chemical imbalances in the brain when in fact our brain and body function has been forever changed by trauma and we need to learn to feel safe in there again. She said she experiences dissociation but the brain changes that she is describing is associated with being hyperaroused, the opposite of dissociation. Can someone help me understand? "Our first study involved 9 patients with sexual abuse– or motor vehicle accident–related PTSD and 9 controls who had a history of sexual abuse or motor vehicle accidents but in whom PTSD never developed. Figure 1demonstrates that compared with controls, patients who relived their traumatic experience and had a hyperaroused response to the traumatic script exhibited significantly less activation in the rostral ACC and medial prefrontal cortex as well as in the thalamus and occipital cortices.11 Lower levels of ACC activation and medial prefrontal activation are consistent with previous PET studies of sexual abuse and combat-related PTSD.10,17,22 These brain activation patterns differ strikingly from those observed in a second study of 7 patients who dissociated in response to the traumatic script and of 10 trauma-exposed controls.12 Figure 2 shows that these dissociative patients had higher levels of brain activation in the rostral ACC and dorsal ACC, medial prefrontal cortex, and areas in the superior and middle temporal cortices. The most remarkable findings in these 2 studies are the opposite patterns of brain activation. The more typical reexperiencing/hyperaroused group exhibited abnormally low activation in the medial anterior brain regions that are implicated in arousal modulation and emotion regulation more generally (ACC and medial prefrontal cortex), while the dissociative group exhibited abnormally high activation in these regions." I think she was trying to say she cycles between either hyperarousal and being dissociated. Hugs to you. Good luck it will be good and remember gaga and we all believe in you if you get nervous
salad 62
the parts about dissociation and somatization and just how everything affects her are exactly what i go through every day but never knew how to explain until i saw this and its so unbelievably comforting to hear it come from someone else, especially gaga. it's horrible for anyone to go through but none of my friends or family know how it feels or how to cope or help and she describes it exactly as it goes for me and i feel so lucky to have her as a role model. i think people think its weird how happy she makes me but this is exactly why. i don't think i relate to anyone as much as i do to her. when she talks about these things and how they affect her it makes everything so much clearer and i am then more easily able to understand myself and that feeling is like no other. sense in a world of incoherency means everything to me. I've been crying about this for the past hour but in the best way possible because i really needed this. i will always be so grateful for her. we can make it easy if we lift each other

Nirvana 2,712
I cried when I read this. Thank you Gaga for this and everything I think this is even more inspiring that even though she has PTSD, she still does this all and is inspiring others to heal too. Many times I have thought that I should heal first before I start to help others, but my problems have been going on for so long I think I'm never fully going to heal, just have to deal with this. This inspires me so so much

I'd had depersonalization and derealization and it would be scary, and make the anxiety itself worse. I'm guessing she tried to simplify topics that most people don't know about to make it easier to share the message
