Angel Down is about innocent people being gunned down for things they can't help/change. Plus it's the only Gaga song outside of Grigio Girls that brought me to tears in my eyes

REALITY

When I first saw the title, I instantly thought Dope, so I voted for it.

Though, TIHTY and Princess Die are both incredible, and very saddening songs.

I think DITD is a fairly sad song. I mean it's basically about a girl that's being abused and put down by her lover, so she "dances in the dark" because that's the only place she can be herself without persecution.

I wouldn't say it's a terribly optimistic song, but I just find Grigio Girls a lot sadder. I guess it depends on your experiences. Having your friend with stage four cancer be the one to help you cope with the situation is devastating to me :(

Definitely Princess Die I mean the first lines alone are pretty revealing and frightening to her state of mind.

"Leave the coffin open when I go
Leave my pearls and lipstick on so everybody knows
Pretty will be the photograph I leave
Laying down on famous knives so everybody sees."

"I wish that I could cope, but I took pills and left a note"

Dope. I mean, she has her fair share of pretty sad songs, but this one takes the cake. And throws it on the ground. And stomps on it.

It's honestly one of the sadder songs I've heard, ever. I mean, the whole content about drug addiction and it affecting her life and mentality the way it did, you could totally hear her convey it- she sounds like she was kicked while she was down, and repeatedly.

Princess Die is a close contender because it's very related to suicide which hits hard with anyone that struggles with depression.

I agree. The song itself is very telling.

That said, it did have an element of ironic camp that made it a little... more fun?

I agree- it's very hard to listen to, because it's content is not only indicative of where we are as a nation, but also because it hits so close to home.

Although, there is a hint of bleak optimism in it, which I am grateful for.

Illuminati

i think Princess Die, Hair and TIHTY are the ones that made me cry a bit at times.

I know Hair is a weird choice but this part gets me every time:

And on Friday rock city
High school dance
I got my bangs to hide
That I don't stand a chance, a chance

Lol wait I thought most of you hated Dope vocals? :saladga:

I'd say I Wanna Be With You and Speechless.

Dope is the most sad because it's the one Gaga song that doesn't have any hope left in it.  Even her other saddest songs (TIHTY, Angel Down, Joanne, Speechless, etc.) have some sort of defiance or strength to them. Dope is just utterly heartbreaking because it's hopeless. And it comes from a dark place of humiliation and exhaustion.

Princess Die could've been one of the saddest but I can't really count it since it never had a formal release, and I don't think it was a fully realized concept when it was performed. It is definitely her most morbid song though. Part of me wishes she had released it since it was so beautiful... but I think she did the responsible thing by keeping it... the glamorization of suicide is just too dangerous a concept to play with, especially during the BTW era, it would've really caused ethical problems.
