When the Royal Variety Show last saw Gaga she performed suspended ten feet above the stage, seated in front of an enormous Salvador Dali inspired piano. She wore a red latex Elizabethan gown, complete with an impossibly long train and diamond eye patches. These weren't just gimmicks, she "proved" that by playing the piano and soulfully singing a song she wrote entirely on her own. It was pure creative ambition.

Last night she performed a simple song co-written by a professional songwriter, wearing a standard Maxwell gown, on an unadorned stage.

The differences between these performances highlight perfectly her recent lack of creative ambition. A lack of creative ambition that fans on this site defend as a "striped back traditional approach to art" because they think it gives her the artistic legitimacy that her "queer theatrical gimmicks" couldn't earn her.

Lady Gaga and Little Monsters seem desperate to earn the respect of the public, even if that means she must become another artist entirely.

This doesn't feel like a creative evolution. It feels like a creative hibernation. I hope she wakes up soon.

Or maybe that's because she was never supposed to sing there and decided to do a surprise last minute performance because she was in the UK anyway.

Hope you leave this fanbase, Gaga doesn't need toxic fans like you. You can leave.

My criticism is applicable to nearly any of the performances she has done to promote Joanne. It's a lack of creative ambition that can be seen in all of her recent work, not just her last minute bookings.

If you are unable to handle any criticism of her work perhaps you could speak to Moderators about setting up a "Safe-space" area of this forum where you wouldn't have to endure the emotional trauma of another Lady Gaga fan having a different opinion than you.

She is toning down the eccentricity, but she is still an artist.

She doesn't need to evolve every time she puts out an album. Creative ambition is not mandatory or even necessary.

It's ok if you don't like this new Gaga but your opinion on her new music is just that, your opinion. She and many other people are enjoying or at least respecting this new side of her.

Nope just sick of fans who are not here for Gaga but her crazy outfits, performances or what not and don't support her music unless it's pop and produced by RedOne. You guys have to let her grow as an artist and if you thought that Gaga is going to do the same thing (ex: make redo's of Bad Romance and wear crazy outfits bc her fans love that) over and over and OVER again (like some artists) then you never knew Gaga at all, and if you are going to complain about why doesn't she do this or this and you don't like it, then feel free to leave the fanbase no one is forcing you not to. Gaga doesn't need toxic fans. That's the last thing she needs, she already has enough pressure on her.

If you don't think creative ambition is an important quality for her or any artist to have then I think we just have a fundamental difference of opinion when it comes to art.

But I never suggested she wasn't an artist, and I never claimed anything I was saying wasn't just my opinion.

I don't like pop music. I wouldn't mind if she never worked with RedOne ever again. I never suggested anything like that. I'd be perfectly content if she released an instrumental polka album as long as she released it with the same passion and creative ambition she had a few years ago.

You clearly misunderstood my post.

It kind of makes me sad that the last time she performed at this show, she was wearing a red latex Elizabethan-inspired gown, playing a Salvador Dali-inspired piano raised 20 feet in the air, while the violinists played blindfolded... and now she sings standing still in a pretty dress with her tattoos covered up.

It's just... hmmm. :madge:

I love judas SO MUCH but I canʹt look like a copycat of JLO!!!!

I noticed on the TV Guide listing she wasn't included, so it's nice she made a last minute addition. I kinda think she wanted one more UK performance because she wasn't happy with her X Factor vocals.

So, it's impossible for her to do something different for it to be equally as legitimate? Do you not realize that her transformative nature is, more than anything else, the core of who she is as an artist? She's focusing on something different. She hasn't cut out that avant grade creativity, she's doing something different. I don't understand why this has to be viewed as a deficit and can't be valued as something different. The songwriting on this album is very strong. The vocals are very strong. The aesthetic style is also strong. It is different, but still sharp.

We have forgotten our public MANNERS
