If Saudi Arabia doesn't impose their laws on the foreigners to dress in a certain way. Then Germany shouldn't impose laws on the foreigners either, as in not ban anything they possible want to wear.

Good. Why should the right to wear what they want be taken from them? Why should Germany impose laws on these foreigners if Arab countries don't impose laws on the foreigners?

I think Melech is talking about German citizens who wear burqa. Also, aren't all women irrespective of nationality required to wear abaya in Saudi Arabia?

These kind of laws always bring the worse in people. They tried to do something similar with "la charte des valeurs québécoises" (the quebec charter of values) in the province of Quebec in Canada and it was a big mess. There was a big increase of islamophobia and muslims were even more marginalized. They say it's to "protect" the women but in the end it does the opposite.

My sister wears the hijab and she feels in no way undermined, on the contrary she feels empowered by it just like some other women would feel empowered by wearing a skirt. Some women find empowerment in covering themselves and some women find empowerment in showing their bodies. There's nothing wrong with that.

The only wrong thing in this is that all women shouldn't be told what to wear which is exactly happening in the world now in countries like Saudi Arabia or France or other countries.

But I totally and fully understand and agree with Merkel's point. A fully veiled woman would hardly successfully integrate a Western society.

He never said anything about German citizens, so I simply thought he was talking about the non citizens and well, he just "wouldn't bother continuing the discussion".. anyway. I think you're right, but after all, it's a very strict country.
