Not generalizing at all, because this happens with every women wearing the burqa from the experience I had. Muslims not wearing burqas greet me as someone else would. That's the point I'm making.

Fcking today, I had the same sh*t. A woman in a burqa with her baby in a stroller,  greeting and waving her, she walks by like nothing happened. And greeting is possible in any form.

And I don't feel uncomfortable, it's just plain rude. You enter my shop, be nice to either give a simple way of a greet in any form. And I don't work in a shop where as I have to ignore my customers, I'm there to work and help the customer feeling welcome and satisfied.

This is not H&M/Zara.

Man you know what you are so right! I wish we could ban the Hassidic Jews of my neighbours, they ignore us all the time and makes me feel uncomfortable. I mean, the mens, when i cross their path , they LOOK down. What is the police doing!!! And those women with their wigs.... don't even get me started on this.

With all this talk of banning burqa in Germany, I'm appalled :classy:

To be progressive is one thing but you have to draw the line somewhere. We can't have people wearing/doing whatever they want out of the name of progress. You still have to respect the values and customs that your own country was founded upon.

The burka is not required in islam and is more of a cultural influence imposed by islamic extremists hundreds of years ago. While some are forced to wear it and others choose to wear it, they should respect the cultural differences from country to country. Just like a western women has to adhere to traditional clothing in the Middle East, the same should be done vice versa.

As for freedom of choice, the burka infringes on other people's security and safety in a society. To be multicultural is to be well integrated with other people and cultures where as the burka literally divides oneself from integrating, interacting and accepting one another's culture. I also find it amusing that many on here argue that to ban the burka is against progression when the burka itself is a symbol of what men inflicted on women ages ago.

Living in Toronto, i see women wearing them on a daily basis and here we have entire neighbourhoods where burka dressed women live and hang out together and it can feel very awkward and intimidating for other women, males, and children.

While the word "ban" might sound harsh, it is the only way to get people to get the message across and personally, if they don't like it, they are more than welcomed to go back to where they came from. I am pro liberalism and in no way a racist, anti-islamic etc, but western countries have to put their foot down once in a while.

The double standard that western countries have to be accepting of everything while the rest of the world does their own thing without a peep from anyone is ludicrous and needs to stop.

Why r u comparing the western world to oppressive nations? We're supposed to be above them. Just because backward nations across the globe are bad, doesn't mean we should be.

Also, burquas do not threaten anything. Just because they make u uncomfortable doesn't mean we should ban them, we can't ban things just because we don't like them. For god sake, isn't that why we (the US) have the first amendment? To protect offensive speech or expression?

Yeah but so are many non Jewish Canadia, so why would they be discriminated right? Because they make others uncomfortable?

I correct myself, the only embarrassing thing is your ignorant racism. I took iranian studies, maybe you should take another history class about Iran. And reading your post it doesn't even seem to stop you from being full of prejudice, unfortunately.

What in the world?! :toofunny:  If you're gonna bring up the Arab conquest from 7th century, year 647(!), don't forget to mention as well German and Polish Catholic crusaders forcibly converting Northern European pagans in 1200s, bloodsheds in Estonia, forced German as official language etc.

Northern Africans married and mixed with Arabs, Berbers had many different dialects and couldn't understand each other if they were from different cities. You are actually promoting Arabophobia and Nationalism from the minority of them, only to further divide those countries. You brought up THAT only to defend French colonialism, genocide and oppression, they used to strip Muslim women naked on the streets, which is related to all these recent bans in Europe. Let me remind you, Algerian war for independence ended in 1962, survivors are still alive.

So should the Jewish religious garments be banned?

To the first part: I even put a link there. So I'm not gonna bring my argument again. Read the article. I didn't defend any french colonialism. And you accusing me of arabophobia because I also believe in the freedom of Amazigh people? :oprah: (Berber is a slur btw)

And no, muslim garments won't be banned either.

I don't read your links, I know what you were trying to do with "North Africans are not even Arabs".

It's because I mentioned ban of Arabic/Islamic clothing under French colonies (which btw differs from Gulf countries) and ban of speaking Arabic language in public. It was related to this topic.

Burqa and niqab are part of some Muslims' religious garments, it's part of their culture, these topics are about their ban since "they don't belong to West" and wearing them is considered religious extremism, so by that logic Jewish garments should be banned, because extremists wear them as well.

 ---

Since you're going back and editing your comments after I posted mine, let me do the same. If you don't know how to explain yourself, no link nor article on the Internet will help you. Discussion is not throwing links at each other, skipping questions and derailing topic with unrelated comments.

Others here are also doing good job refuting your position, so you can be happy with that emoticon, like you won the debate. lol

The irony of "leave me alone, don't quote me", when you were just while ago preaching how this is a "forum for discussion and everyone has right to quote anyone, and you'll continue to do that as much as you want". I think it's just an excuse because of the lack of arguments:)

Well then I don't even know why you quote me and try to have a discussion with me. This is not how it works. So, leave me alone. Literally, it makes no sense that you quote me. :ladyhaha:

And btw if Jews wear something like a burqa it should be banned, too.
