It automatically creates an all-powerful government with many possibilities for corruption. It's like whoever wins the US election also gets control of the House and the Senate. That's a terrible idea.

That's basically the system in most european countries. At least here in Germany and we're doing fine with it :)

I think he means the Greek-like system where the winner gets a free extra amount of seats. That could be dangerous and counter-productive.

I agree with limitinf Senate powers thiugh - a two chambers is actually less democratic though it does put a nice second check which prevents nazis from getting to power.

Where's "The Left" tho? They are sleeping throughout Europe letting fascists to take advantage of the general disappointment and rise up. In a way they are backing up the neo-liberal policies of the EU which is the cause of the whole crisis. Neo-liberal EU is over, the capitalism is dying but 'it' will drag us all to its grave. The European Left should do sth and stand up against this holy crap populist-fascist-neo-liberal-f***ed-up-messy-thing situation!

Sweet Olive

This is sad. Thank you fellow Italians. We wasted the only chance to make a change, although not a perfect one. Now we deserve all the scheiße that will keep coming. Not that I expected a different result, after Brexit and Trump...

They had Berlusconi with the current system and look - corruption.

Yes extra seats are unnecessary. But it's not a bad thing if the government automatically has the majority of the seats in the parliament

It's not left. They are ONLY labeled as radical left but they are populists collaborating with far-right party ANEL and the neo-liberal Merkel (aka capitalist bankers' wh0re) regime. The real left is against neo-liberal policies. More socialism less private sector. The greek gvmt has privatised (sell out) everything. Anyway but I am talking to a Merkel supporter-I remember-it doesn't make sense talking for politics w/ you. You re talkning about greek politics but u don't live in Greece. Me I am talkning about german politics because Germany is the actual governor of Greece. Anyway... will MR be next Gags top 10...?:neyde:

It's good as long as a good party comes to power. In Greece it backfired. It could be way worse - imagine, though, if the far-right came to power with nothing to control them?

Maybe because neo-liberalism has won and given us economic growth. Neo-liberalism is a fact with which you have to live, as indoctrinated you may be. What the left needs to do is create a neo-socialdemocratic platform, as they have moved to the centre too much, no longer representing the people and having no real solutions for the problems to the welfare state that endless inter-state ompetition from globalisation gives. Globalisation is a beautiful thing because it causes a big rise in equality between countries and their populations, but within countries it has led to a rise in inequality because it has opened up possibilities for tax evasion, and given too much incentive for govts to lessen necessary (environmental) legislation, to privatise companies for the sake of foreign investment and to think lower wages are a good thing for the sake of an improved competitiveness.

In the current way things are going, and there is no turning back to sovereign nation states that are not intertwined in the world stage on issues ranging from the environment to the economy and goods to politics - that's impossible and would cause even worse consequences such as wars.

The solution is an internationalist - hell, supranationalist - sovereignty. A global tax system is a long way ahead, but politicians like Merkel prioritise cooperation within smaller supranationalist bodies like the EU which is the only possible future for socialdemocracy. If every country has the same corporate tax there is no longer a way to exploit loopholes as there will be no loopholes. As we've become too dependent on other countries (for the important reason which is preventing war and of course a huge increase in wealth for everybody), which means that our systems and way of thinking needs to adjust likewise. Isolationary, anti-globalist leftists pose no viable solution to this problem. Merkel is paving the way for a viable solution to the way the welfare state has fallen all over Europe by slowly paving the way for the creation of a supranational welfare state.

First of all if you want to engage in a discussion stop being sexist. Also it's kind of paradox that you think that I can't talk about Greek politics meanwhile you can call our leader a ***** which is a sexist slur.

There would still the constitutional court (which is extremely powerful here) to control them. I just think it's a very unstable situation if you have a government that get's bloked in the parliament constantly. Just look what happened in America. Obama couldn't do anything, which led to a very disappointed population
