The vote asked about plans to streamline parliament but it was widely seen as a chance to register discontent with the prime minister. The No vote was supported by populist parties, and the referendum was regarded as a barometer of anti-establishment sentiment in Europe. Opposition leader Matteo Salvini, of the anti-immigrant Northern League, said that if the exit polls were confirmed, the referendum will be a "victory of the people against the strong powers of three-quarters of the world". AlbiCalderone 234 Posted December 5, 2016 Share Posted December 5, 2016 TBH I don't think there's anyone actually qualified to be Prime Minister right now in Italy, the fact that now Salvini, Grillo or even Berlusconi (yes he still didn't die) could take the power makes me cringe, but this constitutional reform was messy and shitty and the way they summed A LOT of changes just with a YES or NO was ****ed up, politics in Italy is really ****ed up right now. Luc 4,776 Posted December 5, 2016 Share Posted December 5, 2016 It's funny how populist parties have no ideology or consistency - while in my country the anti-establishment want to abolish the Senate (similar system to Italy here), in Italy the anti-establishment parties want to keep the Senate even if it means that Italy basically proves that it's unable to do anything and will forever stay a dysfunctional democracy. Because of the shitty system the step-child adoption was removed from Cirinnà law for example.
