Overrated Legends

I agree, I like The Beatles songs, just not them singing them lol.

Nothing will beat the Across the Universe renditions in my book.

I think Mariah Carey, yes, the beetch can sing, but her music and style is just so meh...

Yeah, definitely. She has a good voice, but honestly it's just not to my taste and I HATE her attitude. Her music is mostly very average aside from her vocals.

People need to understand that the Beatles only are what they are because they were the first to do what they did and not because they are good

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

Also, no :grr: You guys are gonna give me heart palpitations. This thread is about who hasn't worked hard enough for their success, and Beyoncé doesn't fall into that category. A true vocal master; she's impeccably talented in that department and we're yet to have heard of Bey ever facing a vocal injury. It's all from years of coaching. She's also an amazing dancer, probably the best we currently have of the major female pop stars. Not to mention, absolutely incredible touring artist. I can't comment on how much input she has on writing or creative direction (although from what I've seen in behind the scenes and such, it looks like a lot more than most would suspect).

I respect your opinions though, just my two cents :gaycat:

Would you like to tell us who you think is an overrated legend then?

I am in pain as I write this but Broadway legend Idina Menzel. I kept waiting for her to slay "Let It Go" live. I'm still waiting. Why Idina...why?:wtfga:

It's not a problem for me.

I find Elvis overrated (didn't particularly bring anything revolutionary, wasn't original, mediocre performer), Adele (her singing abilities are highly overrated, she's an average vocalist and her writing isn't extraordinary), Justin Bieber (not a good singer, his dancing is mediocre and he often just goes for a crotch grab, bad writing, basic production), etc.

All of my answers may not necessarily be considered legends currently, but more than likely will in the future even if I, and many others, don't agree with it. Even then, I still bop to Adele and many other potential legends I find overrated. I'm sensing some subtle hostility in your post and it's not cute or necessary :gaycat:.

Madonna. Her biggest talent has always been marketing and reinventing herself. Vocally and musically speaking, she's average at best.

Dammit the first two that came to my mind were The Beatles and Madonna

I don't get why people keep dragging vocals into this. You don't need good vocals to be a legend. But of course it helps (à la Mariah, Beyoncé etc.).

I don't believe anyone is overrated per se though.

Not really. She's only a so-so vocalist but her albums have always been great, looking at it from an artistic standpoint. About the only thing you can come for is her vocals. She is hailed as one of the greatest performers of all time and pushed the boundaries for females during her peak. If being a great performer/dancer, writing all your music (including your debut album solely), re-inventing yourself time and time again, majorly pushing the boundaries, etc. while still being discredited by many makes you "overrated" then I'm not sure you know the definition of that word. :oprah:

How dare y'all say the Beatles tbh :diane:

they were the first major innovators in pop music history, and aside from that they have written some of the greatest music and melodies EVER. without them the course of pop music history would be completely different. they deserve 1000% of the success and legendary status theyve gotten. :what:

Okay everyone how about we make another thread about who we consider to be legends then compare. This is getting ludicrous :toofunny:.

her using sexuality for controversy and having strong visuals doesn't absolve the fact that she cannot sing

I mean, Madonna's songs pre-Mid 2000's are fairly great. To me, personally, I just find her voice hard to listen to. Which makes her overrated to me. Even on studio versions, I can only get through one or two of her songs before I have to stop lol

How does this contribute anything? :oprah: The people you quoted, already think she's overrated, so posting this will only to add to why they think she's overrated.
