Back in 2011, Interscope wanted to release the Zedd Remix of Marry The Night as a single. But at the end they sent the original one. As an artist, I'd prefer the version I did, because it reflects the intention behind the work. Making a remix or a feature with a popular character seems like an attempt to gain popularity and charts, which imo diminishes the artistic purpose of the song. I would probably be exactly the same as an artist too, I wouldn't want to diminish the song's original integrity. But I suppose in that case, I should then have released more of the original versions as singles before the album release. I have never quite understood the logic of releasing songs people already have unless they are absolutely almost 100% guaranteed GP-fodder - people that don't have the album who will then buy that specific song. Don't forget that the Bad Blood music video filled with guests is what contributed at 90% to the hype. That and the rumor that it was about a Taylor/Katy feud. Bad Blood was a perfect storm of hype. That definitely made a large part of it for sure, and perhaps therefore isn't the best example of my point, but what I am ultimately saying is, that when you're months into an album's release and still wanting to release singles from it, it seems to be effective to create a unique version of that song to try and regenerate hype and interest in it, rather than releasing a song everyone has had for months already. This is A. Not a Taylor Swift commentary, its using her as one example parallel for the theory I was proposing. B. I am not, actually, saying that 'this tired ass strategy' should be used in a way where any popular and trendy musician hops on board to try and gain some cheap sales. I AM actually saying, via that of an opinion, that perhaps the current trend of features, remixes and musically changing up single releases has kinda been proven to be effective lately, and thus COULD be an avenue worth exploring, should the musical change up or featured artist add to the song's merit (not that I am saying that Lamar's inclusion in Bad Blood did, but it worked nonetheless). She can also simply release a live performance exclusive as a new version for the single. But most of her acoustic arrangements are really too simple and lazy. That usually happens because there's demand, like she goes to a lounge BBC session and people love it, Interscope releases that version. That isn't happening But i get you're idea of creating new buzz. It's a good idea, we just need something a bit more creative, though that's what's been lacking as it seems, of late. Well, you have to understand, I am a newbie after all - you gotta go easy on me a little initially But yes, that's really what I was getting at. In fact, I'd say my point doesn't even include a feature necessarily, it just involves changing up the song in some way (an added verse, added orchestral elements, vocal shifts etc.) to try and re-brand the single release into something fresh and exclusive, in a way that still preserves its artistic merit.
