4BLAiNE 1,349
Hey guys So this is officially my first ever topic here, and I haven't a clue as to why I felt the need to share this opinion, but alas, I am I was just thinking about the current situation with Joanne, and the fact that it seems for all intensive purposes, that any song she releases at this point probably won't make a major impact on the charts as the majority of the fan base who has the album already won't re-buy the single again (of course, the super fans will), and the momentum on the album already seems like its passing over as its been out for over a month now. (But we never know, I'm still optimistic!). So, what I was thinking, is that Gaga and many artists should maybe consider doing what Taylor Swift did with the Bad Blood single release. By creating a slightly altered version musically, and adding a featured artist on the track, it not only re-generates hype around the song (as it is, ultimately, a 'new song' in its own right), and it also means that all fans who may already have the album version of the track, now will buy the single due to the fact it is a unique version, helping it chart-wise. I am the furthest thing from a music industry expert, but I honestly believe that an effective formula is releasing two or three singles prior to an album's release and then creating unique versions of songs already on the album if one wants to continue to release singles from it, to ensure people aren't put in a position where they have to re-buy the same song over again. What do you guys think?
The Child 18,997
Why not but she would need to deliver a super great music video. Don't forget that the Bad Blood music video filled with guests is what contributed at 90% to the hype. ‘If religion be the cause of disunity, then irreligion is surely to be preferred.’ ‘Abdu’l-Bahá

AndyDWUW 3,971
You read my mind This is why i'm hoping for a DIC remix (the fanmade Nicki Minaj one slays)
Head Empty 25,446
This strategy is way older than Taylor Swift though. And honestly, I think John Mayer summed up my thoughts on the matter pretty nicely when he defended Gaga during ARTPOP: Gaga wrote the album exactly like she wanted to. Re-making the songs and adding on a populair featuring artist will only take away value from the project as a whole, even if it gives a slight boost in sales. viniferrett 16,684
she should but she won't I really think a hey girl remix with some pop divas would slay everyone
LePetitGAGABLover 21,234
I'm sorry, but no. Bad Romance, Single Ladies, etc. are all proof that you only need a good director and visual idea, not a long list of celebrities.

I agree with you 100%, and I am totally behind Gaga remaining true to her music and herself (in my own personal capacity, I love the album and am not phased with how well it does chart-wise at all) I was just thinking that as a general strategy, should artists want to try and re-generate hype for the later singles in an album's lifespan, it could work well

I am not meaning she needs to have the celebrity list Taylor had for the BB music video, I am referring primarily to the fact she changed the song up musically for the single version. Like this? If this is what your talking about "changing the song" is nothing new and Taylor did not invented it. The same happen with Summertime Sadness. You need a good REMIX, not features. Tokyo Rose 1,475
She has tried that before DWUW got an Xtina remix, AND a seperate Rick Ross remix

Not necessarily a remix per-say, but yes, I suppose a remix would fall under the same thinking (perhaps just not as drastically musically different as a remix is)

She released the album version first as a single and then tried to release more versions
sipthistea 21,099
I believe she's had discussions with her label about that. Back in 2011, Interscope wanted to release the Zedd Remix of Marry The Night as a single. But at the end they sent the original one. As an artist, I'd prefer the version I did, because it reflects the intention behind the work. Making a remix or a feature with a popular character seems like an attempt to gain popularity and charts, which imo diminishes the artistic purpose of the song. Yo GagaGaga 6,541
I have a slight suspicion there'll be a Million Reasons ft. Selener Gomes, that'll get attention and it'd probably do one since Selena Gomez is big in the media right now and the GP seemed to like Million Reasons on its own
