I know this is gonna sound harsh, but if she hates fame that much she shouldn't of signed onto the superbowl.

Why shouldn't she be able to perform? The real bad guys are the people harassing her. Someone should be able to be a performer and have their own life. She is not the problem here.

The part where you're being a jerk towards Gaga and implying her feelings don't matter just because she has money on her ****ing fansite. :nails:

It would be like wanting something really bad and then crying about it when you get it.

But you're not dealing with a full deck of cards, obvs

As if harassment and privacy haven't been an issue for people in show business for 100 years. Poor little gags needs her special place :nails:

This is one of those moments when Hilary Lindsey would say: that's a song.

Or like thinking you wanted something but then realizing when you get it that it's not as great as you thought it would be?

I mean, have we not all been there? My husband and I wanted a dog, we got one and fell in love with her, but my husband also learned VERY quick that he has severe allergies so we couldn't keep her- didn't account for that.

**** like that happens, and people are allowed to be upset. They're allowed to struggle with determining whether or not to keep suffering to maintain what they love. And if you don't know what that feels like, either you've never actually taken a risk with something you love or you've been very lucky with your life experiences.

So because it's been happening for a long time we should just excuse it? Abuse has also been happening in marriages for hundreds of years, so should we just accept that as part of the description?

Many people on this site are young and honestly have no ****ing clue sometimes.  you will, as you experience life.

Gaga thought she she had a handle on fame and understood it.  then she found that reality is much different than book knowledge, and trying to tell yourself to handle it is not sufficient when reality is overbearing.

I also think she didn't account for how shitty and money driven the commercial music industry really is.  that added to the burden that fame imposed, for someone like her that loved music and art and doesn't just think of it as a job.

Excuse me but when I see something wrong happening or an injustice I'd rather speak up than say it has been happening for years, let it go.

It makes sense to me now why she would get a house that big with so much land around it. Just to take a walk freely. Play tennis if she wants to without swarming through people all wanting to take a selfie. Can you imagine Gaga pulling up at a regular bowling parlor with friends? Chaos would ensue so she has one at her home. Now tell me that's not isolating.

It reminds me of that time Michael Jackson would "rent" a supermarket and have it closed down with just people he knew in the store pretending to be shopping so he could feel what it's like to just go to a grocery store without a hassle.

Fame is so depressing, I can't comprehend how some people make that a goal, being rich and not famous is heaven, being rich and famous a nightmare

Gosh some people here are so ignorant to depression/anxiety and mental health issues in general. Rich people get depression. Rich people get anxiety. Rich people can have mental health issues. Rich people can experience loneliness. Rich people can cry about their problems.

Yes, Gaga wanted fame. Yes, Gaga strived for it until she achieved it. Yes, she has acknowledged fame isn't all she thought it to be - she wrote an entire ****ing album about the dark side of fame. It's not like she's just coming out now and claiming "victim" of fame.

Just think about everything she may have experienced over the last 10 years - loss of friends, difficultly in making new friends based on common interest in random settings, loss of the privilege of simply going to a store without nosy shoppers or paparazzi, the discomfort that might surround the fact that people literally stand just outside her property line, trying to catch a glimpse of the one space of land where she can do things without worrying about paparazzi/nosy locals, every pound she adds/loses being a hot topic on gossip shows, her appearance often ridiculed on national television, the fact that fans have this idea of her being a perfect god that can solve all their problems - having that sort of pressure on her would no doubt be such a burden sometimes especially when she's having to deal with her own issues.

Does Gaga have good things going for her in spite of all this? Of course. She has financial stability, the resources to do what she loves, a great family that she will always be able to provide for where necessary, she's able to travel to anywhere in the world blah blah blah. Is her loneliness and desire to talk to people rather than pose for photos a 'first world problem' in her sense? Yes. Does this invalidate her at all? No. Feeling socially isolated, regardless of how many friends you may have, is extremely damaging for mental + social health. We all talk to randoms on an everyday basis - when we buy our groceries, tickets to a movie, ordering our morning coffee, small talk with people on the train/street, 24hr friendships with drunk girls in clubs - take that away and it's a very small bubble we'd live in - very isolating.

Do you think the world trying to invalidate her feelings that resulted from all this because she's 'famous' and 'asking for it' makes everything that much harder? Most likely. I spent so long in denial about my depression because I truly believed I didn't have a 'reason' to be depressed. I had a great family, lots of friends, no money problems, was a social person, heck I was even happy at times. That rhetoric was damaging and caused me to develop more preventable health problems because of ignorant people/culture insisting that only people who struggle are allowed to be depressed or lonely or anything.

If anyone here supports the destigmatisation of mental illness, you should be supporting the destigmatisation of mental illness among everyone, not just everyone (minus celebrities)

If it's her talking about it that is the problem, then just don't listen. It's that simple. There are people, like myself, who appreciate when high profile people talk about their struggles because it reminds me to stop invalidating mine. Her words, and the words of other celebrities speaking out could potentially mark the beginning of people actually listening, and realizing the damaging nature of fame and fame culture and bring back the sense of humanity towards celebrities.

Amen to that, amen to that

So, if a black person goes on TV crying because their son has been suffering racism, we should say: hey this has been happening for centuries, poor you needing your special place. Deal with it and stfu.
