The decision to appoint a prosecutor was never within the power of the President. In fact, it would have been an abuse of power and would have been an impeachable offense.

The only precedents for the kind of vow Trump made to "lock her up" are to be found in dictatorships and banana republics, not the United States. The closest parallel may be what Yanukovych (a former Paul Manafort client) did to Tymoshenko in Ukraine.

The government has wasted enough money! Clinton's emails have now been investigated above and beyond any standard for the suspected offense. It's time for the FBI to start spending time investigating Trump's oversees business connections and how he will make his decisions based on those ties.

If that's the case then Obama should have been impeached over the special investigator and prosecutor which was assigned after the Trayvon Martin incident (I agreed with his decision to do so).

Tbh I don't think it's fair that some of you are making fun of Trump for not pursuing it- he is kind of showing civility (something people say he's not capable of).

If he REALLY wanted to, he could make her life a living hell.

No, he can't. He doesn't even know what he's gotten himself into. The delusion is so real with you

Under the laws and Justice Department regulations governing federal prosecution, a President Trump would not have legal authority to direct the Attorney General to appoint a special prosecutor to ‘look into’ Hillary Clinton’s email situation or the Clinton Foundation or anything else. That’s not within a President’s power.

Making threats or vows to use a nation’s criminal justice system against one’s vanquished political opponent is worse than terrible policy: it’s incompatible with the survival of a stable constitutional republic and, under our Constitution, would represent an abuse of power so grave that it would be an impeachable offense—one reminiscent of Richard Nixon’s deliberate use of the IRS to go after his political enemies.

Trump stated "I would direct my attorney general’ to exercise the power to appoint a special counsel. The AG’s proper answer would then be, "I’ll review the facts". The fact is that the attorney general must exercise independent discretion—not merely carry out the President’s whims.

You are correct. I do believe that a vast majority of the country feels that she got away with something. I wasn't particularly happy when she made our nuclear response time public knowledge at the final debate- that in itself was a true mistake on her behalf.

I am not saying this to be partisan or create an argument but it does say something when you have 2 of the most hated candidates in American history running for office (both have a favorability rating below fifty percent).

This was the year of the outsider. Bernie Sanders rode a wave of populist anger and probably would have won the nomination if the DNC had not conspired against him and rallied behind HRC. Donald Trump was taking hits from Republicans throughout the entire cycle. He took down 2 political dynasties in once cycle- The Bush dynasty and the Clinton dynasty. People were determined to roll a stick of dynamite into Washington DC and let it just explode and see where the pieces fell. People are pissed, and I don't think anyone would disagree with that.

In many ways I feel like Clinton was a representation of everything that people in flyover America hated- it wasn't even about her scandals or her husband- it was the fact that she was a Washington DC elite. They revolted against her. Which is apparent considering that solid blue states were flipped to red. (Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania) and NEARLY Virginia.

I suppose I supported Trump for the same reason. It wasn't his questionable rhetoric, or his immigration policies. I literally am pro-immigration, pro-choice, anti-drug war *cringing at Sessions right now*, and I take a non interventionist approach to my opinions on foreign policy. Im an atheist so it wasn't the "america needs morals" movement in my head.

I guess I felt like this country was being ran by the same people over and over and over again and that we were all being played. Republicans and Democrats alike. Their true colors were shown when Trump got nominated on the Republican ticket. Republicans even sided with the "insider" (Clinton) because they didn't want some outsider coming in and crashing their party of deception. They know he won't go along with their games because he's not beholden to lobbyists and special interest groups and they have NO CLUE how to prepare for his administration.

PS. I am sorry if I have angered anyone over the last two weeks. Truthfully my allegiance lies with humanity and this fanbase. I think elections just bring out the worst in people when it should bring out the best. Each election is a testimony to our ability to maintain our republic and a miracle. Freedom is just a generation away from being lost- and im not talking about just our right to marry who we want either- im talking bigger than that.

My heart is open and my mind is too. That's all I ask of anyone else also.

That's all fine and everything (It's not, but I don't want to debate atm :green: ) - but does it just not phase you that so far as president-elect, Trump has done nothing but promise to act similarly to these "DC Elites, Establishment candiates, insiders, etc." in the past? Or, what is your reasoning for explaining away this dissonance, I'm curious to know. I honestly believe Trump fooled people quite successfully. He ran his campaign like more of an experienced politician than even Clinton did, which is why it was successful :shrug: As more and more promises are rolled back or entirely scrapped and he goes more moderate than he said, it would be logical to think that the millions of people who voted for him because of these fringe, radical conservative/reactionary policy ideas would turn on him or feel betrayed, but I get the feeling they wont.

Well he has done something that I really think is a great idea tbh. He has required any member of his administration give up their lobbying license- (can you believe you have to have a license to Lobby in DC? LOL) and if they serve they are not allowed to serve for 5 years after leaving his administration.

He wants to put term limits on congress which is long overdue if you ask me. (Too many professional politicians- it leads to stale ideas and business as usual measures)

I would ask you why is him shifting towards the center a bad thing? It seems that a lot of fears by the extreme left are being vanquished daily. What if Donald Trump is actually going to work with BOTH parties and he only used the Republican ticket to get the big job? Whether you arrive by Plane or by Bus does it matter as long as you get where you are going when you need to be there?

I don't have a problem with him shifting towards the center (though I'd argue that shifting from the far far right (alt-right :green: ) to the right is while technically towards the center, still demonstrably on the right) but I do question the indifference that is apparent in voters who voted for him because he ran a campaign of being VERY far right... Both politically and socially. Fears aren't necessarily being vanquished, they are being replaced, and no one knows how to feel. Experts have known and told people that the idea of a "wall" and "deporting millions overnight" seemed very very unreasonable, so did many of his early campaign promises, so I've never expected some things to stick (though his supporters did :emma: ) All of this on top of his pretty much white nationalist administration team, its a mess. If he's really more of a democrat (like he used to be in the past :green: ) and is planning on working with both parties to get things done, that'd be nice, but its not why people voted for him at ALL. It doesn't make sense to see someone, have them tell you their hand is perfect, and then trust them because they lied over someone who honestly showed you their flawed hand from the start :duck:

To your closing sentence, The ends hardly ever justify the means, especially when the means involved running on a campaign of hate and fear and ignorance. There was so much wrong and dangerous about how he ran his campaign that I don't even want to get into, it would take hours :laughga:

Basically, I question why his supporters who voted for him enthusiastically are not more outraged that he has quite blatantly lied to them; are they so blind that he can do no wrong now? They see these statements hes putting out and they nod their head even though it goes against why they voted for him? To those who saw him as somehow the lesser of two evils, has he proven you wrong yet? Would anything be enough to do that? :rip:

~~~
Also, I don't know enough about term limits in American culture to say that I am strongly opposed to or in favor of the idea. I do know that on paper it sounds good; there are VERY good politicians who have been in congress for a very long time and I think they should stay, but there are also very bad, corrupt politicians who work against the interests of their home states or even the country for the sake of money and vote partisanly even if its against the will of the people, and they should get out. I think currently, voting in local and state elections should be SO much more emphasized and less restricted (voter suppression, gerrymandering, etc.) but I don't think term limits would necessarily solve this. I don't have my mind fully made up yet about whether good politicians staying in for long times outweighs bad ones or if they cancel each other out yet, etc. Voting incumbents out of office should be easier than it is though, and I think campaign financing laws should be stricter, and we should definitely repeal Citizens United, though that probably won't happen under Trump given his SC Nom list :laughga:
I'll have to think some more :emma:
Also, I think im okay with the lobbying proposition, more so than term-limits, but I'll do research as well.
I honestly knew this since the beginning, he's a politician now, he won't do everything he promised during the campaign.
That would embarrass Hillary a lot and Obama doesn't want to be remembered for continuing the pardon streak of his predecessors.  Hopefully that's just all over and Trump drops it, sounds like he has.
Everyone knows the nuclear response time, if you watch tv series or movies of read books on the subject of US government...of if you watch shows like Rachel Maddow. You shouldn't believe all the ignorant conspiracy theories you hear on Reddit or in your echo chamber, because most of it is bullshit!
Bernie didn't win the nomination because he didn't have minority support. If you want to win the Democratic nomination, you have to have the minority vote, and of course it always helps to actually be av Democrat for longer than two or three months. People are pissed that nothing was getting done and that we are in gridlock, which is due to the GOP congress.
White people wanted the BLM movement to shut up and wanted the brown people out of to not be allowed in. Banks and credit card companies have tightened the guidelines and the middle class can't borrow against 110 per cent of the worth of their house anymore and can't run up tens of thousands of dollars of credit card debt and claim bankruptcy...over and over. They are pissed because they are having to live within their means. They are doing what white people do when they can't buy their toys- blame the poor and POC.
You have ideas and an attitude that coordinates with the racist rhetoric coming out of the Trumpets. It didn't surprise me thst you supported Trump.
Republicans sided with Clinton because Trump was racist, xenophobic, misogynistic, dangerous and someone who sexually assaulted women.
Lastly, this has nothing to do with the thread topic. I have no idea why you decided to reply to my on topic comment with this mess? I guess you are trying to defend your past racist language and comments and support of much of the bigotry that's come out of the Trump campaign and camp the past eighteen months. You can try to rewrite your history now, but I'm not buying it.
Someone called me a ******* on twitter and I told them to get deported.
It's clear that you're one of those people who just want to run people into the ground. You probably have a lot of hate built up inside of you- probably got bullied as a kid or something and now you have found an outlet to release your anger.
I mean you sit here and type this long long long rebuttal out to me as if MSNBC is going to cover it and someone is going to write a column on how right you are.
Just because someone disagrees with you on politics doesn't make them scum of the earth and someone that should be targeted for humiliation or critique.
Yep, I know. It was a racist comment to make.
Lol at the assumptions. Guess you "ran out of ammo", huh?
I typed a long rebuttal to your long, completely off topic rebuttal to my completely on topic comment.
Don't quote me with a completely off topic, illogical rant filled with conspiracy theory nonsense and then expect to not get called out for that mess.
