Why I Admire Gaga Less Now

While I don't agree with this post at all, I'm really trying to understand your opinions...

My question is, when will Gaga be good enough? Would you like her to make happy, empty pop music instead of expressing herself and making music that pleases her? Would you like her to become physically and mentally exhausted? I just don't get it. Thinking that someone could wish tragedy upon themselves is messed up, especially with what she's been through. She's 30 years old now, she's grown up. Just because other artists haven't changed doesn't mean she needs to follow their footsteps.

See the thing is, I'm not "thinking" she's wished tragedy upon herself. She actually said that herself in a Vanity Fair article. "I used to pray to God to install something crazy in me. A creativity and a strangeness that all of those people that I love and respected had". This was in direct answer to the journalist asking more after she said she was dealing with mental health issues. She said it herself, it's the VF cover with the grey hair from 2010. Read the article. It's messed up.

Of course I don't want her to be physically and mentally exhausted and make "empty music". I just hope there can be a breakthrough moment with these issues she's been dealing with for all these years. I'm wishing her BETTER mental health.

Every single album since BTW there's this sense of "a personal record." She says in the promotional interviews she's been struggling and working on the record has helped her through it. Then there was the breakdown after her injury. Then ARTPOP. Same story, album helped her, hopes fans get uplifted by it. Breakdown again after that album. She said so during the Emotion Revolution event and in recent press... It's just never ending. Like, stop saying you are healed if you are not. And if you see that you are inflicting this upon yourself, take the actual time to heal and learn yourself to read those first signals in order to stabilize yourself. Yet here we are again, with conflicting statements about her mental (and physical) health coming from herself, mid-era. With a prime-time slot at the AMA's dedicated to "the garden where I've thought a lot about my life." We get Instagram post talking about healing now when weeks ago she had "ventilated through this album, heeled herself." Well, apparently not...

The contradiction is real. I'd like her to work through her issues for herself first and foremost. I care about her well-being. Obviously. Look at me typing here.

Don't make albums mid-breakdown. Albums mean promotion, promotion means media and public scrutiny. And when fragile, no one can use public scrutiny. If she never returns to music again but it happy with her dogs on a farm, I'd be happier knowing that she's at least happy instead of seeing her struggle with the limelight time and time again. Don't half-arse healing. Finish it, then return. Even if takes an infinite amount of time.

You clearly didn't understand anything about her speech. She clarified several times that the 'fame' she was talking about had nothing to do with being popular.

I am not talking about her speech. I AM talking about how she led and worked her early career. These are things that we all lived through and saw, not what she has stated about it. Watching her and following her career gives an idea and a great notice for how things do change, not only through what she says in interviews. People contradict themselves daily and go through many moods and feelings, but actions and time are the solid process.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

Artistically, maybe she isn't as good as she used to be. she going to skyrocketing extravagant, that maybe that's too much, that she move to the direction her choice.

I personally can't imagine if I has to fill her shoes, with all the expectations from others, what she been through, fame, personal life, etc. And man, celebrity life is tough af. what behind the screen is what we don't know and may affect personally to the person.

After all, she is a human. she still need people around her too.

I agree with a lot of what you said. I think Gaga in general began to take herself too seriously at some point, she did that by wearing her heart on her sleeve. Being in this industry to get your way and create impact, you won't do it by crying and trying to be a martyr. Back in the day when she was at her peak, she got there by staying focused and still standing up for her fans. As soon as she attempted to become everyone's Mother Teresa is when her downfall began. She lost focus.

A lot of you in here are annoying as f*ck because you keep using the "well she's human too" card, however this is what she signed up for. Gaga is a human, a daughter, a sister and also a huge star, performer and now actress with a large following. She will be criticised for how she handles her craft because the way it seems now she's letting herself go.

I'll be honest and admit I also thought it was weird as hell how she's spending an entire era on grief over an aunt she never met. Like the original poster said, it impacted her sure but this weird personal connection she's talking about feels off. I once used to believe in her 'crazy' authenticity, but this era has me questioning many things that as a once 'stan' I chose to ignore.

Thank you!

I speculate this lack of promo was because she might not have been ready for another era, let alone one focused on her late aunt. A new album comes with many opinions and critics ready to attack you for nothing more than a few clicks. She can't control the way this works and I feel that scares her, only because recently she's gotten so used to the peace she had while writing the album and taking time off.

I agree that I would have preferred for her to heal herself with her peaceful time some more rather than come out half-way and feel shook by it.

Have you guys ever taken the time to realise that Gaga used to do a shitload of cocaine and a lot of what she said was either due to being on a cocaine high or comedown or interim period where she's not using.  It perfectly explains all her contradictions, inauthenticity and messiah complex and the wild fluctuations in her ego and personality.

...and before you come at me, do your research into Gaga's drug use and how that can effect ones life and personality.

I think your opinions were well mannered and respectful compared to most of them on this site. I do agree with you on some aspects, and just know that it is understandable to feel this way especially when your idol is evolving and changing, just try and focus on the positives hun:unicorn:

I'm pretty what she means by that is she used to pray that she would be good enough, creative enough to become like the people she admired, Bowie, for instance, or Michael, Madonna even, and not that she wishes great tragedy upon herself. You know, she wishes she could create music and art as amazing as the art of those people she admired, that had that "creativity" and "strangeness".

Using Madonna as a template of well-handled fame and overcoming one's personal demons is just :toofunny:

Anyways, some good points (she has been too proud for her own good), although I think Gaga is more responsible and reparative than you think.

its too much for me to read it all now, sorry, but i do agree with your statement that all the pop stars really like to play on a vitim card. I do empatise with people who had unfrotunate moments, but it all seems they have this traumatic experience in highschool and its hounting them for life, meanwhile most of them were probably popular cheerleeders; but this poor poor me might be relatable to public, and they will buy your album. i do agree its annoying

same is with competitions and shows on tv..... every single contestant is deeply ****ed up, traumatised with horrible past. **** you, if they suck the best thing they can do is tell some sad story
