Gay Man found brutally murdered in Tennessee

News like this always shocks me. Are we really still living in a world that does stuff like this? 

A gay man found brutally murdered in Nashville trucking lot.

 

 

Deon Brown died from multiple stab wounds. Police are investigating and seeking information.

Police are treating his homicide as a potential hate crime.

Brown was dressed as a woman when his body was found, but there have been no reports of him identifying as transgender. He does not appear to have identified as trans from his social media and friends.

Police told The Tennessean that they had travelled to North Carolina to pursue an active lead, but did not give any further details.

‘For the time being, I cannot elaborate on the information we have received that necessitated us to travel to North Carolina,’ said police spokesman Don Aaron.

Brown, aged 24, worked as a cosmetologist in Nashville. A candlelight vigil in his memory was held 18 Nov) in Pike Nashville, TN. His funeral will take place this weekend.

It is not a nice time in the US for those of us who have embraced our feminine side. Be careful. Try not to walk alone at night. Even if you are just leaving work. Be aware of your surroundings. What's with the emphasis on him being gay?  It all seems to be speculation at the minute so I don't understand why the police are labelling it as a 'hate crime'? 

I understand that reporting these things increases the discussion but sometimes I think the media plays on sexuality.  Shocking none the less.

This is disgusting. To be targeted just because of who you are is just blatantly wrong. In times like these, I would hope that people band together and realize that LGBTQ rights are just as important as any other minority group.

My thoughts and prayers go out to friends and family affected by this tragedy.

Well, he's a gay man, he was dressed as a woman when he was found dead, it's in Tennessee, which is a notoriously conservative state... 

All signs point to him being murdered because he was gay. It's sick and disgusting, and they're putting an emphasis on the fact that he's gay because people need to realize that LGBTQ issues are just as important as any other.

Well he was found wearing a dress with no identification with no prior proof that he was trans by friends family or FB. So the police's assumption that it is a hate crime has some sort of base.

I don't think it's improbable however just because he was gay and dressed like a woman doesn't automatically mean it's a hate-crime. There seems to be an automatic 'He's gay so it must be a hate crime" ideology nowadays. Like I said I'm not discrediting the theory at all, simply offering a different perspective 

Also whilst on the subject I guess my point relates more to the general use of 'gay man' or 'gay woman' instead of just 'man/woman' in the media as well which I feel doesn't provide unity.

When it is being reported as a possible hard crime, media will make distinctions that lie outside of skin color. You can't "see" gay, so media reports are going to include this fact...if it is part of the case.
