Hmmm...I don't think it is necessarily a bad idea. With the possibility of who knows what happening in the US, if doesn't hurt to be prepared. Safety of the people in your country can't be ignored. You don't want to wait until it is too late.

what my post really is, is a trollish way of saying probably wont happen. it really takes another step towards confrontation with russia and at this point with trump in office, the US is more likely to side with russia. europe should proceed with caution here i mean who exactly do they need to be defended from if it isnt russia? is it saudi arabia? china? japan? 

 

this just looks like they're laying ground work for another huge conflict. not that they are intending for it, but this could lead that way. if the US military began to weaken then sure, go for it but until then i think the alliance we have is good enough and we dont want anything to provoke or scare the east. this will lead to more posturing from them and possibly war.

I doubt the US will side with Russia, not even with Trump. I anything, they would stay out of it. But there most likely won't be a war between Europe and Russia anyway.

An regarding the question who we want do defend against: It's always a good thing to be able to care for yourself and there are also plenty of military operations going on in the world right now. Europeans maybe want to take more responsibility in these

if trump is in office at the time and depending on the situation, i wouldnt doubt anything tbh. 

 

take responsibility? like intervening in them the way america did in iraq or syria? what military operations? if its for defense then why would they get involved in military operations outside of europe?

They were already planning on doing this, Trump just gave them a reason that would convince the European public that it's necessary. So Trump did and didn't cause this.

If you can I think it's important to correct this bec it could confuse people that don't know how the EU function. There is also the EU council and EU commission (in that case the latter is involved) and it can create confusing here too!

Otherwise, well it's never too late to distance ourselves from the US defense, hope it won't backfire, they have the most powerful army, and maybe the EU nations having another defense army together could also counterbalance.

I'm joking about America's hubris and also the fact that I would rather have Merkel run my every second than Trump.

The thing that surprises me still is Trump's attitude.  For America to spend more (really minutely as it is) than other countries in NATO and still be perceived as the military power... why would his ego want to throw that away?  Obviously with Trump insulting every country they will start to make other plans without him.  He is such an idiot.  I am not surprised... I voted for the other guy (girl)!
