LaLuna 12,732
This sh*t again? We've been having this f*cking conversation since 2013 Joanne debuted at #1, she's doing the SB halftime show, the AMAs... What more do you need? Oh, that's right, I forgot, everything she does is irrelevant unless she has a constant string of #1 singles and stays in the top 10 for 20 weeks
StrawberryBlond 14,820
14 hours ago, Beto said: Well, to be brutally honest, she's fading. While she's not aiming for commercial success anymore - and that's fine, she's still not achieving critical acclaim. You gotta have at least one of 'em to show off a little, man. If her album barely sells and the critics are like 'yeah, it's ok'... terrible sign. As to whether she's completely over, I wouldn't say so quite yet. She's managing to alienate more and more people as time passes and even me a little (and I was a major fan once). She doesn't seem to grasp how important it is to be commercially successful and yes, to AIM for it. Her onstage performing skills have been lackluster for some time now. She's definitely not very influential anymore. Her sales are declining, her singles underperforming. GP interest is pretty much gone. They respect her now (at least more than they did back in the AP days) but they aren't interested in her every move. Also, on a personal maybe less accurate note, I think Mr. Campbell ain't got what it takes to manage a solo pop era. Troy and the rest of the Haus back in 2009/10 were marketing geniuses and they created a pop machine on her way to legendary status that dominated the music industry trends. Bobby wants to turn her into a music 'diva' like Streisand. I feel like Gaga looks/sounds so unauthentic and try hard when she goes for the 'diva' thing. But that's just me. Sorry it's a f*cking essay. You've hit the nail on the head concerning what's bothering me. If she was getting at least one of those things - commercial or critical success - I would be a lot happier. But she's been so 'meh' on both counts with AP, C2C and now Joanne that it's making me really weary. Yes, when the critics say a badly performing album was merely ok, that's a bad sign. That's them essentially saying that they agree with the public who didn't buy it. Xtina's last 2 albums were rated as overwhelmingly ok by critics (the last one they were far too kind to - Lotus was a disgrace and to think it got a whole bunch of mixed reception like Joanne did fills me with rage) and look where her career is. Completely dead. Gaga's smart enough to know not to take breaks as long as she does, which was a major component in what caused her to fade away but she seems to be taking cues from her when it comes to a lack of promo. Seriously, Gaga, where's your drive right now? I know you're practicing for the SB but the rest of the world needs to know you exist too! You might not be like Beyonce and have the whole world respond to your SB performance, so you need something to fall back on. I don't know how someone who was as successful as she once was can be happy with underperforming today. I'd be RAGING that so many generic artists and two-bit talents were getting much more success than me without as much effort. And that rage would force me into promo'ing wherever I could and showing everyone how it's done. If I have to push myself to sell, I'd do it. I don't know why she doesn't feel the need to push herself like she once did. Not to be insensitive, but she's single now and childless - why does she need to be at home all the time? Settled artists are the ones who want to ease back on the promotion, but Gaga's a free woman, just like she was back in the day. So, why doesn't she still live like one? I thought Bobby had it right when he got her performing with Tony on Strictly Come Dancing in the UK. That right there showed he understood the British market well, much better than Troy did. But after that, it's like he stopped caring about worldwide promo and started turning her into a US-centered act. That's what annoyed me the most, not what kind of artist she was turning into. Being US-centered works for some but not all. For Gaga, who was always massively popular outside America, this is proving fateful for and it pains me that Bobby can't see that. As for how you think Gaga looks inauthentic when she goes for the diva thing, I think the only way she could look inauthentic is if she went super-generic and did exactly what the public wanted of her. Gaga looks authentic if she's doing something that's not in right now, which is what she's currently doing, so she always look authentic to me. What screams authenticity is when someone does something that isn't necessarily popular and looks so comfortable when they do it. And Gaga looks right at home whatever she's doing. It's just close-minded critics who want her to remain in a box and label her who are telling us that this is inauthentic, once again proving that professional critics are, for the most part, fools who shouldn't be doing this job. 7 hours ago, Lady Aphrodite said: Duhlinn, Madonna has about 17 Albums... (currently) she had a good run in the beginning... a few hits from the beginning but let's face it... Bitch Im Madonna was her next hit after 4 Minutes with Justin Timberlake which was like a decade before bitch im madonna... Beyonce... mainstream queen... Did not hit PHENOMENAL stardom until around the same year Gaga showed up... but before then... with only 3-5 albums... some hits .... NOT UNTIL RECENTLY with BEYONCE AND LEMONADE did she really shine and became QUEEN BEY. soooooooooooooo GAGA is still on her 5th Album.... SHE IS FAR FROM OVER. THREE ERA HITS OUT OF 5 is not a sign of failure. AND JOANNE IS HER BEST ALBUM SO FAR. They've got some privileges that Gaga doesn't have, though. Madonna's considered a legend and that alone ensures that she continues to at least sell out world tours because of who she is. And Beyonce sells because her PR team ensures she has this untouchable goddess image that ensures the public buy her music because of the respect she commands and because of who she is. Until Gaga's been around long enough to be considered a legend or gets a PR team to sell her as a literal queen, she's going to need successful albums and singles to keep afloat. What opinions is thread trying to squeeze out? Aside from that, this thread is downright rude. When will people realize that calling any artist over when they're not selling as well is not okay? When will people realize that not calling Gaga "over" is just being decent and not kissing her ****ing ass? Probably will take a long time, I mean users like you who think that is the case still exist, but I hope the site survives until that time. So, why doesn't she still live like one? you realize that she said that the reason she and Taylor had issues is because it's so hard when both partners have careers that keep them apart. Yet here you are completely ignoring that she has already sacrificed relationships for her career and giving no thought to Gaga's life and her attempt to find balance because you demand more promo. Gaga has tasted your version of success and found it lacking. She uses different definitions of success now which may not match up with pop fans constant need of numerical validation. I remember when Beyonce released "4" I was so surprised she wasn't bigger than she was. Then boom she released "Beyonce". Just gotta be patient for the next up In her case there is a downward trend ever since BTW to be honest. She had a great debut, spiked to ridiculous level of popularity with TFM and then everything started to collapse till this day. but ofc it's not because GP is picky or whatever
