They set the Electoral college because they didn't actually want the people getting to choose. The whole "it gives small towns a voice" argument is a joke. How is it a "joke"? Without it, NYC, Chicago, and LA would control the entire country. The smaller states are just as important to this country (they are Americans too) and their struggles need to be addressed. Trust me, I live in Illinois, and the fact that politicians only care about Chicago has created huge division and inequality in the state. I don't want that to happen to the whole country. Good point. That is like saying Edinburgh decides the whole of Scotland and London decides the whole of England. You'll be surprised how divided the North and South of England are when it comes to differentiation of opinions on politics. In my messy era.
Spyro 8,438
What about highest percentage? I mean yeah... there's gonna be more votes for each candidate than say 30-60 years ago because we have more voters today... Spyro the Dragon

We cannot ignore most counties in the nation voted Trump. We cannot ignore that the election was so close percentage wise. We cannot ignore she lost in states that were supposed to be blue. I'm not ignoring it, I'm rebuking the system that tells you to care about colors and swing states instead of actual people. We can't ignore the majority of Americans who went out and voted picked Hillary and not Trump.

Spyro 8,438
Hillary is getting 47.7% of the vote (so far) while Obama got 52.9% in 2012... I don't see how this statistic in the title is relevant. Spyro the Dragon

That's why HRC's plans make the gap between the poor and the rich smaller, and that's why HRC's plans make poorer people just as capable to go to good schools as anyone else, and that's why HRC's plans make sure that future recessions caused by Wall Street, big banks and investors are evaded. We can't ignore how DJT used the poor people to his advantage and left them in the cold as soon as he won. The working class voted against their interests because they were lied to and made to believe impossible things. That's the issue here. and the amount of states won is meaningless because all small states go Republican. I mean, states are just that: states. California could be split up in 50 states and could then say 'we cant ignore that HRC won 70 states to Trump's 30!'. It's meaningless. The number of states is not meaningless. The country is called the United STATES. It's also impossible to win the electoral college without the majority of the states. (Correct me if I'm wrong on this) As for your 1st paragraph I agree. Statistically, the EC has "failed the people" 4/45 times, or ~9% of the time.

I don't see how it's relevant since OF COURSE candidates today will receive more votes than candidates in the past, because the number of eligible voters grows every year. Of course Clinton will get more votes than Kennedy and Nixon.. Hell, even Obama in 2008 got more votes than Nixon & Kennedy COMBINED backed in 1960, but Obama only got 53% (which would've been close or over 100% in 1960) of the vote. I focused on percentage because the what % of voters voted for a candidate is much more important than the number of votes. The number will grow in the future but percentages are always based on how much of your candidate is of good quality. Sorry if this doesn't make sense. And I know how the electoral college works, too. Everyone knows that CA, NY, and TX are heavyweights, and they should be. But the fact is that the US has a very skewed population distribution and people living on the coasts and in big cities have much different concerns than people living in middle America. The electoral college system forces politicians to care about the very real problems facing those Americans as well. Without it, they would endlessly pander to the urban areas to get the most votes.
