Omg fave thread, as a singing student i used to know a bit of these but @calmar im counting youll have thread (pinned or wtv, one that doesnt expire) where we can discuss this things xd

Second but gotta say its a horrible choice ofword for what singing is concerned and the rythm\melody she chose didnt help. The per should have a longer duration than fect for it to be easier to sing

I should go ahead and just make the thread already. I highly doubt I could get one pinned; if you want something that doesn't expire that'd be like... a Skype chat or something like that.

Anyhow, when I originally posted in the thread I was thinking of the bridge, not the chorus part. I pronounce them identically in both places, but your comment that 'the per should have a longer duration' threw me until I realized that people could be speaking about different parts of the song.

Yay im very bad at this but i love everything about language be it phonetics or grammar. In fact i was reading some poems today andnhave questions about how to read some words .

Well yeah i always go to the chorus cause its the essence of pop but she does accentuate the first sillable later. Pitty she had to rhyme it with confusion but thats getting out of topic

[ˈpʰɜ:fɪkt̚], [ˈpʰə:fɪkt̚] or [ˈpʰɘ:fɪkt̚] (as an American, I normally say it [ˈpʰɻ̩fɪkt̚], so because the non-rhotic vowel quality is not in my idiolect it varies between several non-phonemic segments.)

And if you're using narrow transcription the /p/ should be aspirated to distinguish it from [p] /b/ <b>.

This is a perfect confusion :laughga:

Spoiler

And to think I was an English major before I went to nursing :deadbanana:

Having trouble deciding whether it should be in Convo Area or Community Center  A lot of the long-lasting interest things are in the entertainment center for obvious reasons but I doubt it would fly to put linguistics as a form of entertainment, esp. since it's an actual discipline and that might rub some people the wrong way
