US Election 2016: Demographically Based on Exit Polls

Data for 2016 were collected by Edison Research for the National Election Pool, a consortium of ABC News, The Associated Press, CBSNews, CNN, Fox News and NBC News. The voter survey is based on questionnaires completed by 24,537 voters leaving 350 voting places throughout the United States on Election Day including 4,398 telephone interviews with early and absentee voters.

(Whilst I am on the fence about exit polls, I do believe that this is a close representation of the final result). This is segmented through main demographics: 

 

Others (e.g. Sexual orientation, religion etc.)

What do you guys think?  I mean, look at the demographics of religion, age and sexual orientation. Nothing we did not know before tbh.

This only shows how many intolerant, racist, and mysogynistic people are really out there that don't give a damn about who we are and who we should be in the world.

She won the popular vote, but not the Electoral College's vote. 

It just amazes me that he has won the White House. He's the next president of one of the most powerful countries in the nation. I'm shocked and I'm devastated as to why people think he'll be so great. That plus the Republican controlled Congress probably means that it'll be a Republican majority Supreme Court Justice.

We've gone so far back that I can't even try to comprehend it all. Our only hope is that the Republican Party uses their checks and balances effectively so that Trump isn't going to be this all-powerful being. 

God, help us all.

I think that for the most part white non educated people voting for Trump is not a surprise to anyone, I just find it interesting how people who voted republican have a feeling that the country is "off track" while those who voted democrats felt like things aren't that bad. It's the same if you look at what the democrats feel is the most important issue, which is not terrorism but the economy, while those who voted republicans felt like terrorism was the number one issue, and I think this feeling of fear for their security is what drawn them to vote Trump (except for those white racist guys from the south of course).

The gays pulled through. I'm surprised at the fact that Latinos weren't more anti-Trump. I guess we can chock it up to internalized racism. Maybe only minorities should vote next time.

These numbers tell us nothing we didn't already know from a win like this. Intelligent progressive movement is in the youth of America, and older white people are conservative because they worry more about their own short future, than the future of all people in their nation and world.

I live in KY, I already knew my vote was a throwaway, because my state houses old white people, white Christians, uneducated white people, and very few minorities, but I know for some other states it was probably a shock to see this happen where they'd hoped it never would. This presidency will be a new era for the world, but it remains more unclear than I would like as to if that era will be one of light or darkness.

Me too. It's interesting how people from the same country have entirely different views on things.

Three biggest bars on that first graph sum up why Trump won: White, older, uneducated Americans. 

Eight years ago, I thought that enough of them had died off for us to start making real progress.  I am at a loss for words. A victory of the narrow minded that is built on an anger I cannot comprehend. This is a sad day for the entire world.
