I guess it's lucky that this Republican sweep happened in 2016 and not 8 or 12 years ago. Gay rights, etc, are more entrenched now. I think things like bathroom bills, the "religious freedom" bills and such will get passed, but I doubt gay marriage will be overturned. I am in FEAR. This is NOT my country. I don't want to live in a country like this. As someone living outside the US, the thought of the US pulling out of NATO and refusing to support NATO forces makes me sick to my stomach. The idea that we are going to go so far backwards on climate change makes me want to cry. These two issues are so enormously important.

America's check and balance system hinges on separate branches keeping each other from getting too much power. Trump is becoming president. His party (which supports him and sides him) is also winning the other branch. They can appoint members of the judiciary to solidify their hold even more. The US is still the most influential and powerful country economy-wise and military-wise. Trump and his party's actions have ramifications all over the world. As mentioned already several times by so many members, Dow Jones is already down and Asian markets are, too. This could snowball and potentially create another GLOBAL recession. You think it's just Trump's actions? No. Even his inactions and the perception of other countries, leaders and investments matter. If you have to ask questions like "what can one man or the president of the united states do?" it really shows how myopic your point of view and knowledge of how the world works is.
