Why is Gaga so much sadder this era?

not sad, i think she's just letting it go, she's been keeping so much to herself cause she couldn't write about those themes, they were not "lyrics for a pop album" (don't @ me about that) and she finally got the chance to talk about joanne, about sonja, etc etc and i think those are not tears of sadness but tears fo relief

I don't think she's sad, necessarily, but what you're seeing probably has to do with the album and the songs she has to promote/perform. I mean, the album deals with some heavy stuff like hear dead aunt, heartbreak and sexual assault, loneliness, misconceptions about her/people in general, the competition between artists that the media creates, the mistreatment of black youth, and her sick friend. I can't even imagine what she goes through every time she performs or talks about the album.

You'd have an awkward smile if you were doing an interview standing up with 5 people staring at you who have absolutely no clue what you are saying and need to wait for a translator to explain everything

I was talking about the one of her sitting down but okay lol.

I noticed the opposite. She seems to be in a better state of mind nowadays and a lot happier compared to the early ARTPOP/DWUW single era days.

I personally think she's never been happier. When I watched the moth club performance of perfect illusion, I thought to myself "look how happy she is. She's back!!!!". She needed a break so badly. She wasn't happy during ARTPOP and I felt like she just kept pushing herself for us. She just loves us so damn much that she puts herself on the back burner in order to make us happy. She just pushed herself until she finally broke. People have said that she took a break because she doesn't love us anymore. So not true. She loves us with every cell in her body but sometimes she just needs to take a mental health break. She can't be there for us if she's emotionally drained. I hope that next time if she feels like she's spinning out of control, she's just honest with us and says "I love you more than you can imagine but I feel like I'm losing it. I need a break".

I love you monsters. I'd be unfixably broken without you

Sad? What are you talking about? :neyde:

She's literally doing what she wants, the music she likes. Maybe she's never been happier.

Those were some dark days. I remember going to ArtRave and telling my friend Mandy "something isn't right. She isn't happy". You could just see it in her eyes. She was spinning out of control and didn't know how to stop it. I hope if she ever feels like that again, she's honest and just says to us  "I love you more than you can imagine but I feel like I'm losing it. I need a break".

I became a fan around the ARTPOP era so I didn't really notice this at the time, but looking back at it now, there was something really wrong.

Now she's going through a break up, it's normal to be sad, heartbroken. But a few years back, it wasn't just that. It was a lot more then just being sad and I'm happy she's overcome it.

They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

Exactly. She was spinning out of control and didn't know how to stop it. I hope at least now she feels like she can tell us "I love you more than you can imagine but I feel like I'm losing it. I need a break"

I've noticed that so many times in this era... Especially during the Howard Stern interview when she broke down and started crying & at the Japan press conference... I mean it's hard to believed that she cried so much because she was gifted a kimono. Also, at the 3rd Dive Bar performance she seemed really off. :ohno:

Well, except during Cheek To Cheek, there's no era where Gaga didn't say she's depressed and sad, that's true, but in the Joanne era I don't see her being sad, she said the album is healing her

I don't think she seems sad necessarily but she comes across as more serious and less energetic.

I think she's been understating her heartbreak. It can totally change a person, and it can take a really long time to move on. Maybe because I can relate, but sometimes I wonder if she thought she could escape it by throwing herself into work, though sometimes it isn't enough.

However, I don't know that I agree she's as sad as you say. I haven't seen her cry that much. She definitely isn't super comfortable in about half the interviews we've seen her in this era. So I can sort of see where you're coming from.

are we even in the same era or...? :awkney:

She full out cried 3 or 4 times this era and almost cried a few other times. She has never been this visually emotional before.
