manicholic 3,694 Posted November 7, 2016 Share Posted November 7, 2016 Popstar overhead/expenses are high Labels can't afford to spot them unless the country/event makes sense for sales/target audience (like Gaga x Japan) Award shows also can't afford to pay international travel costs for A+ stars anymore since viewership keeps plunging year after year with people not buying records There's nothing harder for people to do than admit they were fooled. On our end, having music at the tip of our fingertips is great. But the way it's taking over the album sales is ruining the industry (at least so far as I see it). They should rework the formula. Gaga for example is still a moderate seller of albums and even in digital sales, but once streaming is factored in, she drops several places, even below those who sold so few compared to her. If they're lucky one major star will attend (like Gaga, Swift or Bieber did), and if they'll do the entire show will be set around them (remember Swift in Germany? It was basically her show). The EMA's are usually supported by hot artists of that moment, it's kind of delusional to expect a big star like Gaga or Bey to randomly come pick up some awards. The VMA's are different though, it's one of the best places to gain some attention. (Well, it used to be ) Insert @manicholic quote here. I'm on my phone.
