Well, yeah it is. It was produced by and features one of modern rock's most important figures: Jack White. Just because it's a female doesn't mean it can't be classified as rock. On what criterias? Musical artistry, songwriting, voice? Seriously, the Grammys have become a shallow celebration of celebrity culture. Because music is subjective, perhaps? There are a lot of things wrong and contestable about the Grammys but this is a ridiculous reason for calling it shallow. For starters - the nominations aren't even out yet. So why are you accusing them over something that's not even happened? And yes I do actually think Formation is better than Perfect Illusion. I love both but Formation has a lot more to it imo. It's culturally relevant and challenging, whereas the concept of PI is a fairly simple and arguably generic one. Shallow it is not. Her performance on the song is excellent. Gaga is a fantastic songwriter but PI is not a good example of that when the bulk of the lyrics consist of "it was a perfect illusion" over and over. Again, I love PI and have defended it many times on this site. But this is a weak and pointless comparison.

What would you call it? It has so many characteristics of a rock song... The instrumentation, the riffs, the relatively lo-fi production (particularly for a Beyonce song), the attitude, the vocal delivery... Even if it's a pastiche it's still rock. Rock doesn't = good automatically lol.

Then I think she'll win everything except for Song of the year and Best pop solo performance. So 9 wins. Just wishful thinking. I dont wanna burst your bubble, but I dont think shell win AOTY either, Adele and Bowie have higher chances just because of who the voting members are. Dont Hurt Yourself submissions must be joke I also dont think shell be winning ROTY or SOTY, again purely just because Adeles Hello has better chance of getting the votes from member of the academy, Formation is socially controversial a little after all, the Grammys usually play it safe. However, Im no expert on this, these are just my observations, anyways good luck to her, Im positive Freedom will get the Grammy that one is solid. Delusional Aura 5,129
I think that if ALBUM OF THE YEAR doesn't go to bowie it may go to 25 (don't understand why you all hate it so much). If it does go to beyonce, while people like her a lot, they like adele even more (her album sales are proof) and they will think that she was snubbed. But, grammys are supposedly not given out based on album sales with the exception of taylor swift's 1989.
