Resurrecting ARTPOP

Probably my favorite Gaga era after TFM. (I love 'em all, to be sure).  Something about AP's "queer-ness" (for lack of a better term), made me love it.  She got me to believe that the meaningful, radical life was possible (sadly, Joanne and her recent career moves have me feeling  that the outlandish, progressiveness isn't realistic but I still dig C2C and Joanne). Anyway, justice for Venus!  Jewel's N Drugs, MJH, G.U.Y., Aura, Swine (especially the vomit performance!), DWUW, etc etc!

Mister Gaga

Believe it or not, ARTPOP is gaga's creative peak. ARTPOP screams Gaga, it showcases her soul, her voice and her pain; it contains a great amount of pain and fears in it. Don't judge this flawless record because of it's bad commercial performance.

We have a thread for ARTPOP stans. It changes titles often but try searching ARTPOP stans lounge with the throwback tag. Im on mobile, see

This is why I never open threads like "Underrated Gaga Visuals" and things cause they definitely existed before, but I sometimes kinda want to. :poot:

Someone once said to me about ARTPOP not doing very well and I said "But did you like it?" and he was like "Well yeah" and I said well there you go then who cares :toofunny: Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift are big, could I manage to listen through their music? Absolutely not. Success isn't about taste anymore.

I really love ARTPOP and still listen to it quite often. It is a great album and it has some incredible songs (Sexxx dreams, G.U.Y, Gypsy, MJH, in particular).

It's not about the album, but going to the Artrave 3 times really did hype the album for me. Even though the BTW Ball was better because I could never forget Gaga's injury night (not that i liked that she injured herself, it was a tragedy, but this night was just really emotional), the Artrave had this amazing atmosphere that stayed after all this time and it gives me a little rush when i listen to the album!

ARTPOP would have been a much better received era if it was called another name and if she scrapped the whole I'm an artist crap. It's a great campy, fun, party album. Sometimes the lyrics get a little cringy but it's part of the camp part.

ARTPOP is my favorite album of all time. I do not understand how it is considered a flop if it has sold almost 3 million copies worldwide, she had a sold out tour and applause was a top 5 hit. I get the promo was a little messy but like Gaga says, "it's about the music" Every song on there was amazing and the album flowed perfectly. Hopefully, people will look back at this album and realize how amazing it is

It's fun album. I wish most of it was heard by the public because it did have interesting songs. I enjoyed ARTPOP more than Joanne, but Joanne is a better album.

Half of ARTPOP is filler. Another problem was that most of the songs are very unrelatable. Some songs with great choruses, have obscure verses than you can barely hear and sing along to if you're a casual pop listener (Aura, Venus, GUY, Sexxx Dreams, MJH, even Applause). Some songs really don't get to any point and are too out there to get (GUY, Swine, Donatella, etc). And the rest borderline campy (Gypsy, Fashion!) or cringey (Dope vocals, JnD). The only easy to listen song is DWUW and it had a rapist featured.

If she had better management and didn't come after the BTW era, it would have been received better.

I love all of Gagas albums, and listened to ARTPOP a lot. When DWYW and Venus were released as promo songs I was in love 😍 Unfortunately it all went downhill after that. Gaga was in a lot of pressure emotionally and were in previous albums she made performances seem effortlessly grand, you could tell she was struggling on this one. When Venus and Aura got canned as singles, and DWYW never saw a video I was frustrated. That caused many Gaga fans to lose interest in her fast. Then the overhyping of the app which was a disaster, etc She was in a weak state and seemed to be fighting for her life instead of enjoying her music. Felt really bad for her. Friends who were in love with either Venus, DWYW or Aura where sorely disappointed and gave up. Then the messy, overproduced G.U.Y. video received a lot of criticism. I attended the ARTPOPRave in Sydney. Didn't enjoy it as much from where I was sitting. Fans where disappointed she only did a medley of her best hits from previous albums while most people in the crowd seemed unimpressed by the show. Unless you were in the pit area it was hard to get engaged to the show imo. Best moments where when she actually sang her ballads on a piano.

Yet in the end it is still a great pop record, not her best but still a lot better than most other artists achieved on their best efforts. In terms of her career this was her American Life / Hard Candy messy era. Not bad just not ideal. As with those Madge albums, there are many gems on it though and still can easily listen to it from track one till the end. Her duet with RuPaul on Fashion! was the outstanding moment for me as well as the Applause video.
