Lady Gaga is not forgotten...everyone still knows who she is in every corner of the world. Being forgotten is: "Y'know, Lady Gaga?" "Who is Lady Gaga?"

That doesn't happen. As soon as you speak her name, people know her, some know her major GP performances, Oscars and National Anthem, but no one is questioning who she is. One of the reasons why they are continually surprised by how good of a singer she is haha.

The single killed her career with the GP

Sad but kinda true.....it stigmatized Gaga's name as something only gay people listen to.

I love Born This Way! but even if it hurt her career a bit (even that it was a smash) the song was needed and it changed a few things!

I don't really care about that but before it Gaga was everywhere, like everybody singing her songs, joking around them, she was GP friendly.....like what happened with 'Hello' now you say 'Hello' somewhere and your friend is going to say 'it's me' same used to happen with Gaga's songs.

Anyway, that's starting to change....after C2C and now with the GP friendly Joanne sis she's winning what she  lost.

Maybe its just my circle but Gaga is still extremely relevant to us. I'm the only avid fan but all my friends like her. My roommate was singing perfect illusion to herself the other day. I made all my friends watch her on AHS and they loved her in it. They also loved her Bowie tribute. Idk she doesn't really need a hit to be respected and considered important.

My cousin said something like : "Even if she was only famous for 15 minutes, these were some amazing 15 minutes. She's created a legacy for herself, people will remember her."

It doesn't really upset me, even if it turns out true. People will remember her.

She did it once. She can do it again and she's about to smash it again with 'MR' showing a whole different style that us the fans only know

I have friends who just recently found out that Formation is on an album, and that Lemonade exists.

So, don't get discouraged. Some of us are just more informed on the music scene.

Yup

Taking out of music context, my friend that loves playing games knwos all about games, releases, upcoming games, games in development, why? bc he likes that a lot. I like games too but I don't base my life on them otherwise I know a lot of music releases and upcoming  videos, albums, singles all that crap, I know what Gaga is doing on Japan, what the red or green updates are but he doesn't.

and the GP just listen to songs that are popular you know? This friend that I mentioned, if I send to him a Gaga song he would love it, he loved Applause and then when GTA V came out the song was on the game.....

It's way easier, they just enjoy the results that actually the artist & us made, they enjoy that for a moment when we had a whole experience/adventure we went through....

Some people aren't informed.  Carpool Karaoke has 21 million views.  That ain't hay.  Also ww iTunes album charts is #1 after 13 days.  To me that's remarkable.  Believe me people still care about Gaga and her music.  Also, the people in the music business haven't forgotten her.

The thing is, Gaga's initial popularity was absolutely phenomenal. She had the world in the palm of her hand. She influenced pop culture, pop music, the fashion industry... and everyone talked about her. Even my grandparents talked about her and they were 90. Those first three or four years were stratospheric, like as big as the Spice Girls.

But, similar to the Spice Girls, that kind of brand image only lasts a few years before it becomes stale. The Spice Girls broke up before they became like that, but Gaga kept going. Her inevitable decline in popularity is only noticeable because of the colossal peak from which she fell. She's still one of the leading ladies of pop music, but people will always say things like "Lady Gaga who?" and "it's like she dropped off the face of the earth", because their only frame of reference is when she was on everyone's lips. And now she's just a pop star with the same level of popularity as her peers, it's far more noticeable that she's less talked about.

Amazing post and yeah, I never thought about it that way. Mind you, I have recently considered that some bands with members who are much younger than Gaga have split up and yet Gaga has continued making music and having some level of success with it. Pop groups tend to split when their singles no longer go top 10 and their album can't go platinum. The first sign of trouble, basically. Spice Girls did it, NSYNC did it, a lot of British-centred groups like Girls Aloud, JLS and The Wanted have also done it. They quit before they became laughing stocks. But Gaga has fought on through the 'you're a flop' phase and has continued to get further than some of these acts despite her more advanced age and not making generic music. So, there is hope.

That makes me feel SO much better, thank you. Indeed, a lot of people are nowhere near as educated on current music as us unless they too frequent pop forums. Most people just listen to their faves and that's it, no one else exists unless they have stratospheric success like Adele. No one in my inner circle has Lemonade or even cares. I know it's a different story in the grand scheme of things, but yeah, it's only noticeable to us because we live our lives through pop music.

That's what I thought too. Her likes on Carpool Karaoke have also levelled or beaten the amount of likes off some singers with millions more views too. The only 30+ female who's still having crazy success right now is Beyonce. Maybe Nicki Minaj at a push, when she comes back. But there is literally no one else in that age range and gender having success right now. So, for Gaga to still be selling like she is and being talked about like she is is really something. There's a reason why a lot of popstars consider retiring when they're 30. Because that's when most popstars careers go downhill, especially when they're female. So, it makes you feel so much better when you realise how well she's doing for her age in comparison to others.
