Madonna isn't very diverse...

Featured Posts

I've recently been listening to a lot of Madge and I love her music so far, Rebel Heart is so good omf. But anyway, one thing is very consistent throughout all of her music. Religion.

There are so many religious references and inspirations all the way from the eighties to RH. I don't dislike it, but I mean.. the majority of her music revolves around religion.

Gaga's so diverse and different with each album and Madonna just isn't imo.. I'm not hating on Madge but religion is her biggest aesthetic (but i will admit that bitch can turn out some looks. :hor:)

Spoiler

Receipts:

The Fame - about fame, money, celebrity praise, etc.

The Fame Monster - Fear

Born This Way - Self love and religion

ARTPOP - Art and music

Joanne - Reminiscence and love

Gags only used religion a lot in the btw era. (And dont say she did in tfm era bc it was only Alejandro and wearing crosses)

it's not like she writes a whole album for religion.... it's always a track or two on the whole album

Um... I get there's still an existing invisible feud between Monsters and Madgesters, but these references are there for a reason as they shaped who Madonna is. Give me a minute to tell how you're so wrong with your argument

Madonna: Straight up dance-pop

Like a Virgin: Yeah, I'm a rebel and I get money doing it, how are you doing?

True Blue: A pop album that features themes of love, teen pregnancy, world peace

Like a Prayer: An album centered around Madonna's upbringing, personal relationships, and how she copes with it all

Erotica: Do not think there are any religious references here, but definitely Madonna fearlessly expressing her sexuality, and sexuality and sensuality in general

Bedtime Stories: A slow moving album that show's a softer side to Madonna

Ray of Light: An album about motherhood, adulthood, and womanhood

Music: A pop album that is really just that at the end of the day, almost a lyrical call back to her early work

American Life: Her most political album to date and can be considered almost a part two of Like a Prayer as she delves further into some of her past relationships

Confessions on a Dance Floor: A pop retrospective of Madonna's career to that point with various references and overall a good time

Hard Candy: Eh, terrible album but not that religious as you say

MDNA: Let's just not talk about this one

Rebel Heart: Pretty much just a regular pop album with religious references and Madonna trying to intentionally be provocative almost but that's on her, not judging her for that

:madge::madge::madge::madge::madge:

So let's not assume that Madonna's albums are not diverse, she explores many themes like 4/12 of her albums seem to heavily focus on religious material, two of them for the sake of doing so for attention (MDNA and Rebel Heart). Gaga talked about fame, as someone stated, for her first four albums. I'm elated Joanne does not focus on fame, but we cannot deny our HBiC is supposedly not doing the same

Yeah, but it's just so consistent. We get it, she's Catholic

:huh: Madonna's music does feature a lot of religious imagery, but she has lot of different music about lots of different topics, Ray Of Light about motherhood, American Life is scrutiny of America and it's government, Like A Prayer is about her relationship with her family and religion, Erotica about sex and desire, etc.

I'm not trying to start an argument at all, I love ha music, I just feel like she does so much involving religion and it's kinda just boring at times. She's obviously done a lot more than just religion but that's a good portion of it.

And her fanbase is called Madgesters? Explain :oprah:

3=/=4 :oprah:

Even so, I would argue that ARTPOP is not "centered" around fame.

Madonna is one of the most diverse artists in pop. That's why everyone is so often compared to her - there's really nothing she's not done.

Whilst religion is an overarching theme in her music, it is not a part of all of her albums, or even most of her songs. In the same way you could say Gaga's obsessed with masturbation, because she refers to it on 80% of her releases, but the actual album is not about that.

Like a Prayer, arguably Madonna's biggest album based on religion, really only explicitly deals with it on the title track , Act of Contrition and Oh Father - three out of 11 tracks.

As a huge Madonna fan, I don't really see your point that she's lacking in diversity when her lyrical themes as well as her imagery has been nothing but diverse.
