MM: Personally, “Mrs. Potato Head” because it was really hard to write and it took a couple of tries. I had the idea for the title for a while and that’s kind of the visual I’ll usually start off with. My biggest thing was, especially for women, it was so important for that song to portray embracing who you are and loving yourself. Mrs. Potato Head is a character, you’ll see in the video that’s coming out soon. I directed a couple of videos recently, one for “Pacify Her” and one for “Mrs. Potato Head.” I have one more left for this record and then I get to move on to the next album which is exciting. TV: Can you tell us anything about your new album? MM: I’m really into concept albums so the record I’m going to put out next year follows [the character of] Cry Baby and her story in the town that she lives in; it goes from the beginning of her time there to the end in order, from tracks 1 to 13. Cry Baby [the album] was inspired by her family life and the way she was feeling at home, in her environment, in her room. [This new album is] like Cry Baby stepping out of her house and entering this place that we’ve all been. If there are indeed 13 tracks, and they follow a chronological order, then that would mean one track devoted to each school year from Kindergarten to 12th grade senior year. I find it funny she got her start on the voice where (I'm assuming) she didn't do this character. So she gained all these fans from her talent... But she is also gaining fans with this concept and character. I think you're kind of pointing out the same problem fans are/were having with gaga and Joanne. However, I feel, for Melanie, this i an actually character and charade, ingrained into her career. Considering what the character has done (murdered people) I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want some famous AND mentally unhinged running around. many people have inner children and such. many people are true to themselves. I like that she is going with her concept. However, she must know, when it comes time to shed this character, who has now been a major feature of two albums, one of which could be considered visual, it's going to cause a lot of uproar. The Fame was probably her only concept album. While the Fame Monster is supposed to be continuation of the Fame, learning that Telephone is just a passed along work ruins the entire idea and shatters it into a million pieces. Her music videos have great concepts, though, and storylines. but I wouldn't call Gaga pure concept like Melanie is. And the tthing is, while people like her music, will people continue on with the baby sister of Lolita? Will they continue with this lolicon thing? I just dislike the idea she's continuing this character. She can't do it for too long before she is considered a hack and one trick pony.
