Lava 3,423
Okay so; I rewatched the artRAVE today and it reminded me of how amazing the ARTPOP era was. But I never understood (and still don't) know why ARTPOP flopped. Even though it was at number 1 on charts, it got bad reviews and a lot of people shamed it for some reason. But why? Why did people deem it 'bad?' The Fame is one of the best debut albums of all time, it really caught attention of people, and once they saw who Gaga was, everyone knew who she was. The Fame Monster was a commercial success, everyone loved it, it got incredible reviews, stayed at number 1 on charts for weeks-on-end, and got her named the most famous woman in the world, and the album became diamond. On top of that, when Born This Way came out, it was a huge success and got amazing reviews and everyone praised it. The Monster Ball and Born this Way Ball are both two of the most selling female concerts of all time. So when ARTPOP dropped, why did it flop? You'd think with all the success she had, ARTPOP would be better than ever. But it got bad reviews, monsters left the fandom, and a lot of people had negativity towards the album. Most of the GP didn't like it, other than a single or two. But I just don't see why it flopped the way it did, after so much success from previous albums? Spoiler But I guess it doesn't matter now, because ARTPOP went platinum

Tommy Monster 846
Because the critics and some of the chart based fans didn´t appreciate it as the gem it is
venusfly 17,885
1. the born this way era alienated a lot of people because it took a lot of controvertial stances 2. she was a lot 'weirder' during the born this way era, allowing the media to create a less than favourable public image of her 3. ARTPOP was very pretentious, high art and 'reverse warholian expeditions' are never going to sell on a mass scale 4. its sold 3mil copies, it didn't really flop. Buddy 5,686
It didn't list single treatment was messy and it was panned by the critics gag had taken her game too far, and it showed the album musicially is a total mind****, a total gem
Bambino 24,266
I think we should focus on the new era instead of discussing the same thing over and over again. ARTPOP is over. Gaga moved on and so should everyone. Now buy MR
monsterdino 31,991
I've got a hundred million reasons to tell you why ARTPOP flopped
Decodekid 28,157
cause it was fun to make fun of gaga because of no apparent reason plus a lot of people left her behind the promo was messy Long Live Gretchen
Delusional Aura 5,129
Because a lot of monsters were only here for selling over 1 million the first week. So, when that didn't occur they automatically thought it was a bad album. So the 'decay' of ARTPOP started with us and everyone else follow suit
Computer 10,973
It was considered pretentious for its concept so critics trashed her which is such a shame because it's a normal good pop album. Luc 4,775
Mismanagement is the biggest reason. The marketing, promo and PR were all terrible. Applause had Katy vs. Gaga, ARTPOP had 25 million and artflop, the whole art-pop concept didn't connect with people and the album could've done with a few less songs. DWUW should've had a video and the audio shouldn't have been 18+ only. Gaga should've been done with being in the studio by the time Applause got released so she could do promo in Europe and Australia. The era was dead as soon as christmas ended. sipthistea 21,099
First of all: That "Flop" term is already wasted. It's so 2013 and it's become very offensive. Second: Gaga had a rocketed peak, from 2008 to 2010. Then, she mantained it along with BTW tour and promo. Some succesful singles. And then, she broke her hip. The whole Gaga phenomenom stopped for a while. So she didn't have the same reception with ARTPOP. Although Applause and Do What U Want did pretty well TBH. People got tired of Gaga, and she did too. But now it's different. It's about her singing. It's not about the costumes anymore, or the shock factor.
JHS 4,714
Well, you know she can't be on the top forever. During TF, TFM and BTW she was on her peak because she was such a revelation artist and everybody was talking about her. With ARTPOP, people lost interest on her and many considered it a flop just because she didn't sell 1 million copies. Personally, I love ARTPOP and I think it deserved better. Let's just get over it and enjoy Joanne
Ryusei 61,110
It was just the peak of "it's cool to hate on gaga" and almost like an unpopular opinion to like her. So i think it was just that Musery
AlexanderMagno 10,746
There were hundreds of promises around the album and not a single one was fulfilled. Management problems? Probably, but in that case it shows that all the amazing ideas were someone else's and not Gaga's... at least she had no control over them. No videos, no technologies, no app, just nothing. Gaga gave up on the album in the middle of the era, then came back for G.U.Y., and then gone again. For me, it really was about everything that was promised for the album that simply wasn't delivered. on the other handl we had SXSW and the vomit performance, so thank gos for the mess because that is her best since she bleeded on stage
