The decision to deploy "heavy weaponry" to Lithuania – which borders Russia – was confirmed by German Defence Minister Ursula con der Leyen during a crucial meeting in Brussels. German media reports a huge army of tanks, soldier and drones from NATO members states will be active in countries around Russia from February. The confirmation of the deployment will raise further fears that Europe is teetering on the edge of another war. So far, Germany has promised at least 1,000 soldiers (600 going directly to Lithuania) and the rest spread around the continent. Newspaper Der Tagesspiegel said the "combat-ready" army will have tanks, armoured vehicles, snipers and military medics, as well as police. The Defence Minister told the German daily: “It should send a clear signal that an attack on any NATO member state would be regarded as an attack on all 28 members [of the EU]." NATO has been warned Vladimir Putin is quietly mobilising an army that could conquer Europe in just 60 hours. They have a small and rapidly declining population, small and declining/stagnating economy. They should not be one of the 'main players' like they want - they should be as powerful as countries like Indonesia, South Korea and Bangladesh on the world stage. Can anyone think of a good argument as to why Russia has more nuclear weapons than the US, China and India combined? Can anyone think of a good argument as to why the war in Ukraine is not over yet?
