Even tho it's always stupid things like "John Wayne sounds like Joanne" like no it clearly doesn't. Why reach for bullshit things when you could talk ab the actual lyrics/song? Mess.

Actually, I think there is something to be said of the similarities between Joanne and John Wayne, despite the many differences that are there as well.

"Joanne" is told from her father's POV about how he felt, losing his sister. Gaga said that "John Wayne" is, in part, about her father; it's about how Gaga chases wild men, looking for love that she didn't feel she got from her dad (so Freudian :sharon:). Straight-up daddy issues. Anyway to me, the two tracks together show Joe losing Joanne and Gaga losing Joe (in a way).

I think it's meant to be a play on words, but it isn't something that just jumps out at the listener. Gaga talked about "John Wayne" in a radio interview not long ago.

Shipper

I always though A-YO was supposed to mean:

A ho = a$shole or

hey hoe = hey *****

Which one, we can never tell.

What? It's about pronounciation. "Which Joanne you'll never tell" is just obvious stupidity, and if it was in John Wayne it would have to be like "I crave a real wild man, I'm strung out on JOE-AYN. Which isn't how Joanne is pronounced lol. It's just obviously not true, it's not even a smart suggestion, Gaga isn't this basic/dumb.

Wait, really? I took another look at the lyrics and I can't see a single thing implying any of that about her father. Did she mention all of that in an interview?

I'll look for it right now. She said she was thinking about why she's always chasing after danger in her life, and she said she realized it was because of her father, and she repeated that she has dad issues. I'mma look.

She talks about it a bit in this one.

The most important bit's in the Beats 1 interview though. Start at about 27:21.

Found them. Edited my previous  post to include them.

Thanks!

I watched that interview before, but I didn't make the Freudian connection.. that's pretty deep.

Np. As much as I don't love "John Wayne," I love how much thought was put into it, even though it's a rather simple song at first listen.

Got a degree in psych, so I unfortunately make those connections way too damn quickly. I hate Freud's work. :air:
