This era will hinge on music videos

I'm sure Haroon will close this topic if it's in the wrong spot or the trolls will respond with "how many times are we going to discuss this" but after listening to Joanne a couple of times, the hit songs are definitely there.

Perhaps not #1s, but I feel we can score stable top 5s.

The thing is she cannot afford to phone it in with the music videos.

They will be the make or break factor for this whole era. 

Radio is going to do whatever it's going to do and she was never huge on radio compared to Adele, Rihanna and Drake any way, but what is in her control to a certain degree is the VEVO views. That can have trickle down effects on sales and streaming. 

This is not the time to release a TEOG or Perfect Illusion level video. 

They at least need to be Paparazzi level and I have reasonable doubt that we will get that because of her stubbornness. 

And yes, chart lives matter.   Her talent doesn't deserve anything less. I fully enjoy Joanne thanks. At the end of the day, it's still a business where more money needs to come in than out.

Her shtick since The Fame Monster was all on the visual. No reason to drop it now when she needs it more than ever. 

I believe in her talent. I don't believe in her business acumen.

Adele didn't need colourful visuals for Hello or Someone Like You to garner views.

So what I'm proposing is a good song + good video which is not too long (Marry the Night and G.U.Y. for example, though they are great videos).

Perfect Illusion's video's great but the song is not that generic and some people don't like it.

Applause sort of achieved that to some extent. You and I too but You and I's overall ambience was dull and dark, and her outfits and appearance weren't as unique and fierce as those in Bad Romance or Alejandro, not to mention You and I was far from generic, that's why it didn't have mass appeal, though it spawned a Grammy nomination.

The other thing that determines chart position is promotion, which so far has been very much focused on ONLY the album but not the single.

I surely miss an eventful video from her. Perfect illusion is my jam but the video was not the tea. 

A-YO deserves a video no matter if it's a single or not.

In terms of the scale of the videos we get this era, I do hope we get videos like Paparazzi, Telephone and Marry The Night. In terms of quirkiness and 'Gaga-ness', I don't think that's going to happen. I could see her releasing videos for many of the songs on the track list, songs that won't even become singles. Hey Girl is an example, I could see Gaga wanting to record a video for it, just to share with the fans. I hope she comes through with loads of visuals this era, whether or not they are grand in their scale.

I think Gaga is testing the waters right now. We'll have our first televised performance to promote Joanne tonight for example. The album reached #1 in 70+ countries including the US&UK, and it is expected to debut #1 on the BB chart. All of this with radio interviews and internet promotion.

Sometimes I feel like the overexposure is bad when it's mixed with over-the-top visuals. I'm enjoying the balance so far, but I'm actually ignoring PI was ever released or had a music video lol. I'm looking forward to the next single and music video which I hope will get good performances and iconic videos. Those are her strong points, but instead of being all over the place she should focus on bringing it in more.

I think with PI, she kind of just wanted to show us the new direction (not that she really did ), so that's why there was absolutely no promo. She had to know that the public probably wouldn't pick it up, so she took things lightly. 

If she believes in a song, she will roll with it, so if SNL and CK receive her single well, she will roll with it more and give it actual attention/HQ MV. I love PI, but it actually is my least favorite on Joanne, so I understand why she did it now. Although a strong comeback would have been nice, I think she's trying to reintroduce herself gradually to the GP before the Superbowl.

No idea, but I hope she sticks to PI and MR for now just to promote the album since PI is done with anyway. She should save the other songs for single promotion and a bigger stage like the Super Bowl.

Doesn't seem she is focusing on music videos (time consuming) but she has long time collaborators like Jonas. BR was directed by Francis Lawrence and look at where he is now!

Would love if she got a film director like Tarantino to direct but the song would have to be right.

One of the reasons I'm a fan is because of her early music videos like watching her rise out of the water in PF literally made me gag all those years ago.
