The New York Times & Lady Gaga

I know it's against Gaga's codex to pity singers against each other, but this is a comparison of critics judging music based on different factors for different artists.

Let's start with the The New York Times (40 for Joanne) which is biased in visuals connecting to an album:

"It’s a quick-cutting music video that intersperses the songs, and broadens them, with compelling poetry from the Somali-British writer Warsan Shire, poems that often extend women’s physicality toward the archetypal. [...]"

The critic starts reviewing Beyoncé's flawless film Lemonade. (90)

They didn't critic Rihanna's Anti - no negative impact on RiRi's metascore.

Glory by Britney Spears gets a 50.

"Throughout the album, Ms. Spears’s voice — no doubt still processed, but far less obviously robotic — has emphatically returned to the foreground. [...] Choruses, like those in “Make Me…,” sometimes layer her voice into an ecstatic choir."

He actually praises Britney for having LESS processed vocals than the last one. Basically, he praises her for doing what should be a basic for singers.

This is what TNYT wrote about Gaga:

"That means that her new album, the stripped-down “Joanne,” isn’t daring or radical — it’s logical, a rejoinder to her past and also to the candy-striped pop that surrounds her."

Gaga never said this album is stripped down - and her past work never was candy pop.

I noticed that especially Gaga and Britney are narrowed down to their past career path and choices instead of the actual album review in a lot of those critiques.

You can make out what you want from this point of knowledge. But most of all it's that Gaga is judged for everything surrounding her music instead of the music itself, while others get praised for their surrounding image, i.e. Beyoncé and Rihanna. Is it because they are popular, and are they popular because they are traditionally beautiful? Maybe.

They're just biased rats and need to be  exposed. Sorry but how does glory get 50 and Joanne 40 call me biased but Joanne is far better than glory  in every way possible. I love brit a lot but this some BS:awkney::awkney:

They're atrocious, really. Come on the public knows who the legend is.

Several interviewers have called her a musical legend and shown their respect for her, even straight men from Reddit do too,

obviously the GP doesn't agree with the New York Times at all and in the end the GP is the one who's purchasing albums.

Not to mention the Grammys haven't rewarded Britney a Grammy in a decade. Gaga's last one was in 2015, not to mention a nomination in 2016 for Til It Happens to You.

The NYT review was so biased and honestly, downright unprofessional.End of story. Let's not even give that review he time of day. In the end he looks ridiculous, his review was far lower than his contemporaries, who mind you, actually critiqued the music.

relax

It's not just a review, since other music outlets are doing the same. This happened with ARTPOP and helped others bash her

I am relaxed, sis, that's why my opinion was unbiased and based on facts, rather than being insulting. :lana:

The author clearly just wanted attention. And he got it, even from Gaga herself. This is media/mainstream journalism for ya'll.
