XGirlfriend 950
I was feeling festive so I put Come to Mama on and these lyrics really had me SHOOK: Dude in a lab coat and a man of God Fought over prisms and a forty-day flood Well, I say rainbows did more than they've ever done So why do we gotta fight over ideas? We're talkin' the same old **** after all of these years So I did a little digging and she's talking about Science VS Religion here. Prisms being a reference to Sennacherib's Annals which were clay prisms with biblical stuff inscribed on them and then the 40 day flood is a reference to the 40 nights of flood in the Noah's Ark story. The part where she says "Rainbows did more" is obviously about how the LGBT community has brought people together, more than jesus dying for our sins did. Wow I'm shaking. The Lyrics on Joanne are soo good and thoughtful
Noah 26,935
I built the ark and I can confirm, that I brought people together, without me there'd be no animals or humans. (but the LGBTQ+ Community isn't bad at doing the same though) ⟡ ⋆ ˚。⋆🦢⋆ ˚。⋆⟡

Quartz 12,514
wasn't the prism and the flood the argument about what caused the rainbow? Like how the prism in science splits a white ray of light to a spectrum of colors ie the rainbow. After the flood, God sent a rainbow as a covenant to not send a big flood ever again. i never saw the rainbow lyric as something that was related to the lgbt so nice catch. Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

Gagz 2,579
Nnnnn I don't think that's exactly what she means. Biblically, rainbows are believed to have been sent by God as a reminder that he would never create another 40 day flood after Noah and his animals survived. A rainbow represents God's love. Scientifically, a rainbow is believed to simply be the result of colors going through a prism and reflecting light. She is saying that instead of arguing about what created rainbows, we should just appreciate the rainbow.
Benji 20,113
I disagree with "The part where she says "Rainbows did more" is obviously about how the LGBT community has brought people together, more than jesus dying for our sins did." I think that whole verse is about people being so stubborn on arguing their opinion that they're too busy to notice what it really is. You're arguing about who sent or what made the rainbow but not seeing what it's done for people and how beautiful it is. Also kind of backed up by the lyric "Look what that rainbow did" ... they're arguing about what the rainbow is instead of seeing what it's done. Killa 17,404
That beginning ends careers. This needs to be sang at SuperBowl or Nobel Prize or Grammys. It's such a anthem.
