That doesn't bother me. The way her voice gets really thin when she sings "two" (hundred or two) in the first verse is way more noticeable, especially since its at the beginning of the song.

I, for one, am a person without any musical training or any musical knowledge, and I don't hear a difference. Just like most people wouldn't.

I guess I just don't get the selective hearing :shrug:  It's like, an incredibly short note that is not noticably out of tune compared to other moments on the record... If I sat down and listened really, I'd wager it's not even the most out of tune note in the entire song.

Why pick this one? :emma:

This. The album is full of missed notes, here or there, but it's completely intentional. No one sings perfectly in-tune, and Gaga clearly wanted to showcase vocal power over AutoTune-y precision.

I think you are being nit-picky.

Please record one and send it to the group! We'd love to hear its flawlessness :reductive:

I looked at Diamond Heart in my spectrogram and whatever key the instrumental is in, it comprises of the following notes:

C, C#, D#, F, G, G#, and A#.

The "i" in American at 2:02 is sung as an F#, which is none of those notes... so yes, it's technically off-key.

The spectrogram never lies. :emma::oprah::diane::madge::ladyhaha:

That's not how melodic structure works hun

The melody is (assuming a key of Gb major/Ebm):

Cb          Cb        Bb Ab  Gb   Eb Gb       F Db Bb Ab Ab     Ab     Gb Db  Bb Gb
young    wild     a- me - ri-can come on ba-by do you   have a    girl frie-nd

The note seems correct to me.

It definitely definitely is not. She bends into and out of the pitch, hitting in the center of the duration of the tone's length. Not a hint of what one might, amateurishly, even refer to as "pitchiness." She approaches, hits, and then exits the tone. Technically, it would be a microtonal glissando.
