Gaga should stop shading others

Said this in the other thread, but people need to stop having knee jerk reactions and taking things at face value - without the context and intent with which they were said.

Someone in the media brought up Madonna. Comparisons to Madonna from the media has = criticisms that Gaga rips off music from another artist. That she has to take from others.

So she defends herself as an artist, pointing out that she writes her own music and plays instruments professionally. Her comments were about her - and not about Madonna not doing those things.

Was the transition in the conversation not the best? Sure. But anyone that listens to the conversation in full, should be able to tell that her comments are about defending her own abilities - and isn't about trashing Madonna.

I find it funny how everyone ignores what she literally said seconds later that basically puts the whole "shade" situation to rest. She said she isn't rehearsing for big performances or stuff all the time she just focuses on her craft ergo she doesn't mean Madonna isn't a writer etc she means Madonna focuses more energy into her performances and her visuals whilst gaga puts effort into her music. Because let's be honest madonna's status as the QOP came from her performances and controversy not her actual musical depth

Seriously, she just answered a question about the comparisons with Madonna and now I'm reading hate coments towards her everywhere for "accidentally" throwing some shade to Madonna... I know maybe she didn't mean it that way but, lets be honest, she implied Madonna was talentless.. and I honestly don't give a f*ck but I think this is one of the main reasons Gaga gets so much hate and disrespect from lots of people, they see her as someone arrogant even though we know she isn't..

I think she sould just keep it professional and avoid answering to media attacks (aka Chainsmokers, NYT) it also makes her look desperate for approval and insecure.

I'm not being negative, I want Gaga to succeed and shine, and thats why I think she should stop doing this.

Since the golden globes she's so f**king arrogant. xD

Madonna goes on national television and straight up calls Gaga a copy cat and these people have the audacity to criticize Gaga for pointing out that there is a difference between their intents as artists?

There's a huge side to Gaga's point that everyone keeps leaving out, which is that Madonna was and always will be "in it to win it." Gaga is not. Not anymore, at least. She doesn't want to be the Queen of Pop. She doesn't want to be the highest selling female artist in history. Gaga just wants to write, sing live, and play instruments. She wants to be a musician, not a brand. It's probably why she doesn't prioritize promotion anymore. That being said, nobody can deny that part of Madonna's "thing" is that she's a good business woman. She was good at hopping on trends to keep her brand afloat. It worked. She's an icon, but this is exactly why Gaga is trying to move away from these comparisons. Comparisons to Madonna set a commercial standard and/or expectation for Gaga. The longer this comparison is alive, the longer her audience will try to trap her into a commercial pop box.

It's like telling a victim of bullying to stop standing up for themselves :toofunny:

Gaga has always been respectful towards other artists, especially Madonna. But Madonna never returned the favor, so for Gaga to stand up for herself and assert her uniqueness, I think it's commendable.

Although I'm just worried it might get worse/too shady.

just because gaga says that she respects her doesnt mean her comments aren't a drag. it's like me saying gaga is not a songwriter and doesnt do her own art and doesnt play her instruments but i respect her because we're different

wtf?

are you all that naive?

and dont come for madonna fans. they have EVERY RIGHT to drag gaga for this. if madonna would have said the same about gaga you would all attack her

Yes, Gaga implied that Madonna wasn't her own woman basically. But are you actually saying that Gaga doesn't deserve to stand up for herself? After YEARS upon YEARS of comparisons to Madonna, even Madonna herself thinks condescendingly of Gaga. What people meant by accidentally throwing shade was the way Gaga worded her statement, it clearly had negative implications, but she just wanted to assert her own uniqueness, which people have NEVER acknowledged if you ever noticed :awkney: (just go through the YouTube comments of any of her videos).

Now you're being naïve.

Don't you dare say Madonna fans have every right to drag Gaga when NO ONE should be dragging anyone else at all. You're actually quite disgusting to believe this kind of negativity is okay. I assume you're one of those kids in school who stand around watching bullies go their way thinking it's okay. What's wrong with you?

What I tend to love about Gaga is that she remains classy and silent when other people throw shade - for the most part. But honestly, for some reason I am not minding Gaga getting a little up in arms with people.

The response to the Madonna comparison has been a long time coming. That is a completely separate thing, in my opinion. As we all know, a lot of **** went down between those two - or really just Madonna giving Gaga a very hard time. Gaga, really, is a very different artist, and I'm happy she set it straight. Besides, she gave her the silly queen of pop title.

With the Chainsmokers and the NYTimes review...while she shouldn't let that nonsense bother her, I think she just really loves this album, and it is most personal to her... so she is taking things sort of personal. She wants to defend it because it is a great album! I don't mind... She never says anything truly mean, anyway.

Seems sort of healthy, actually. The media and other celebrities can be so heartless and mean about things, it would be intensely painful to have to bottle up every reaction just to not stir the pot when the person is asking for it, anyway.

How about we stop telling her what to do?

Yeah that would be great!

(and I'm ok with it as long as she's classy and not disrespectful)

The Surrealist

She gave a respectful and humble answer to both Madonna and Bowie's son. And both of them were shady as f*ck to Gaga. If Gaga wants to shade someone, she f*cking can.
