iCpro 14,846
I played a few tracks for my mum (Joanne and a few others) who is about as GP as you can get, and she loved it so much she wants to buy it! She said she thinks the album will do really well, and I hope she'll be right. But I doubt it will, because so many people are judging Gaga on who she was 3-6 years ago, rather than judging the album itself, which is genuinely really good. 08, 09, 11, 13, 16,
Guest
The review was a bit harsh but these two parts hit the nail on the head imo, and are the main reasons I don't enjoy the album overall: It’s naïve in its use of roots music and rock as signifiers of something true — as if the excess of years past wasn’t, somehow, its own form of sincerity. Lady Gaga is, now as ever, an impressive if not especially nuanced singer. Often on this album, she sings with a stern, terse vibrato that codes seriousness from a distance but feels more like a simulacrum of feeling than the real thing. KarmaPolice 4,731
Have you ever seen Birdman? Well there's a scene where a critic of the NYT(lol) swear to the protagonist, an actor that came from a succsessfull batman like movies(Birdman in this case) and now wants to be taken seriously by directing and starring in a theater show on Broadway, that no matter what he will always be the Birdman for her and every attempt he will do to erease that image she will destroy him on her critic of the show. Talk about anaolgy...
AlexanderMagno 10,746
For almost a decade, Lady Gaga has been assiduously arguing the case that the external is the internal, that performance is authentic, that flamboyance is ideology. Her career has been predicated on demolishing conventional ideas about what it might mean to play a character — with Gaga, it was never play, always work, and always true. I absolutely agree with this. Unfortunately, Gaga has dismissed this with a few of her latest statements. She is so anxious about being recognised as a singer-songwriter that to do so she ends up revealing "Lady Gaga" is in fact a character. They were harsh with "Joanne", but I think they are quite aware of who Lady Gaga is and what she represents in music culture. They don't sound like haters, just hated the album I guess. Robin Simon 1
Omg now having read the whole article im getting really angry. The author of the article has absolutely NO idea of the concept of Joanne. Partially, it doesn't even read like a real article anymore. It feels basically like just plain hate against Gaga and her work. The author has absolutely no understanding for the real idea of Joanne, of it being the very center of Gaga and not just a try to "excuse" the "flop" of ARTPOP (which btw still sold 2,5 MILLION times and landed on #1) . Joanne ist SUPPOSED to be a collection of very different songs not necessarily telling a story, more showing the veriety and complexity of Gaga's self. And SURE, the collaborations with other artists don't sound like stuff they would do on their own. But that's why it's Lady Gaga FEATURING someone and not a song by Mark Ronson and a song by Florence Welch and a song by Father John Misty on an album by Lady Gaga! Im sorry but this **** offended the hell out of me and these are just my opinions. bye

Thats the problem with Gaga she had such an amazing beyond successful carreer and now people just always try to compare her new stuff to the Fame or Born this way but people change, especially artists. Always putting her in that box of being this eccentric shocking provocative human and then getting angry at her for showing another part of herself to the public they didn't expect her to have is so stupid
