Yes, but some reviewers have agendas, such as saying what their own base of followers want to hear.  If their followers hate a certain artist, that could influence the review.  And I'm not saying to just pay attention to the critics who are Gaga stans.  I'm saying that the reviewers who take a professional approach and have the ability to put all influences aside, are the reviewers to value.  Unfortunately, the metacritic score includes some reviewers who are disingenuous, so the entire score is invalid.

I dunno, I mean, it would be hard to actually track down somebody's history with a certain artist and pay attention to all of that when making a metacritic score. Reviews are what they are and it's always a personal view.

The things Sal mentioned aren't off at all. They're all objective points, actually. He brought attention to some of the shortcomings of Joanne which fell on deaf ears for me.

But of course, a better score would have been nicer to see. Yet, I'm pretty sure the 3 stars he gave factored in not just the sound of the album, but everything that was part of the album's marketing synergy.

I don't actually hate PI

But even Lemonade was given a 70 by SLANT so they can keep their opinion LOL :ladyhaha:

Agree with some points and disagree with others. I'm expecting an average of 70.

Yeah. I'm expecting it to be around what TF and BTW got - a 71% on Meta.

Yes, but their scores in the past are easy to track down.  I would have some respect for metacritic if they banned reviewers who always, always, always praise some artists no matter what, and always hate on some other artists.  It reminds me of years ago in the Olympics when a judge from a certain country would always give contestants from another certain country a poor score no matter what.  Over time, that situation was remedied.  Metacritic could limit itself to thoughtful, professionally minded, even-handed critics.

I live outside the space time continuum.

but again, a review is a personal opinion, Metacritic can't look for bias in every review for every album, movie, game, TV show and all the stuff they report.

I'm not talking about looking for bias within reviews.  I'm talking about something like if a reviewer reviewed 10 Madonna works over the years and gave them all 9 or 10, and reviewed 10 Gaga works over the years and gave them all 2 or 3.  Or reverse that or pick any other two artists for the example.  That reviewer should be banned from metacritic from then on.  Just my opinion.

My last post was meant for you but I forgot to attach it.

Anyway, I respect your opinion and our differences are quite small.  My first statement in the thread sums up my opinion:  "Why does anyone care about metacritic?"   I say this because I think it is unfortunate that so many people get upset about the scores when, as you say "a review is a personal opinion".
