Can we talk about her voice?

So during the C2C era, during an interview with Tony Bennett, Gaga stated (about her voice)

"Since The Fame, The Fame Monster and Born This Way, they’ve been auto-tuning it more, or changing the timbre. They take the vibrato out so you sound like a robot …they really control you, especially in the beginning. Although it was still my songs, and I still had a lot to say about the production, the vocal was something that they really, really wanted to control. So my vocal presence has been kind of the smallest presence about me for a long time. So everything else becomes the focal point.”

She also reportedly told little monsters at Artrave "She declared to us, with complete sincerity and confidence that she would never auto-tune her voice again."

Flash forward to Joanne and we have seen such a change to her voice on this record, it's f*cking incredible! The rawness of Perfect Illusion, the growls in Diamond Heart and AY-YO, the character and pain in Joanne and Angels Down, throughout this record Gaga has shown off her voice like never before. No more changes to her timbre or vibrato, we can really hear the colour, character and quality of her voice. It's so distinct! It's so personal! The tones are far richer!

How are you feeling about the new Joanne vocals? Do you think it's a change for the better or the worse?

I'm living for it personally

The way she sing, and the vocal arrangements in Joanne seems absolutely gorgeous in Joanne. Is not only that sings better than ever but they have arranged, produced, and mixed the voice well.

I don't think she's sounded better on an entire body of work - it does feel very personal and mature yet still with layers of theatricality. Everything just sounds so eclectic yet cohesive - no two songs sound the same, yet they all have their own critical piece within JOANNE (although I know some disagree on this). This album gets me SO PUMPED.

I'm so happy, this album is amazing and it's so nice to hear her voice like this! She's completely matured as an artist and in her every day life so it's nice to hear it! She sounds older than her contemporaries and that's not a bad thing

Agreed. No slight on her vocals in TF or TFM but her vocals have gotten progressively better with each album. Joanne has many moments where she does really remarkable and unique and brave things with her voice.

Yes her vocals are definitely at the forefront and it doesn't get tarnished by the production which is a nice change. She's definitely worked on her enunciation.

I needed this. She's been trying to show people for years that she can sing, but no one could believe it because of her songs like "LoveGame" and "Poker Face." Now, she can completely express herself as a singer. We always had her real voice in live performances, but listening to Joanne makes me not want to go back to hearing her sound unnatural in her previous albums. The songs were good, but it means a lot to me, knowing that she's finally allowed to have control over her sound. She's worked to gain this control. I feel like this kind of album is one she's wanted to make her whole life.

The passion, the emotion she have in Joanne wasn't present in ARTPOP and The fame (excluding Monster EP) BUT now she have also contention and uses her voice in the most clever and creative way she ever had.

I remember GGD was having meltdowns when Mark Ronson said she used her deep voice on this album :ladyhaha:and everyone got Dope flashbacks:ladyhaha:. But actually her vocal delivery is quite amazing

It's mixed. On Joanne, some songs like A-yo and Dancin in Circles sound great vocally, but some others are ruined for me when it comes to vocals like PI, Angel Down etc.

Her vocals on this record are absolutely stunning. Not that I'm opposed to vocal effects for creativity/artistic expression but hearing her voice like this is beyond words
