I think a good chunk of us monsters agree that this is THE song of the album

Funny how it's the only one with RedOne involved :oprah: :reductive: not trying to be shady to Mark because I love all of the songs, but that says a lot doesn't it? :neyde:

#JusticeForLG5

Pretty sure it's the work tape version that has RedOne's work on it and the leaked/standard album version is produced by Ronson :poot:

I could be wrong though :oprah:

🌸Flourishing and vibrant🌼

Her best ballad. It's brilliant. Great commentary on society currently and I can see it being a great and very impressionable close to the era.

Imagine it having a music video.....

I'm actually not as high on this as everybody else seems to be. The chorus melody is undeniable, but the production doesn't do it any favors, and the lyrics are too on-the-nose. Her "woe is the world" shtick works better on Come to Mama because that song keeps it cheeky, but here there's a self-seriousness that I find a little stifling.

In this day and age, I think she is making a statement after all of her past art, mired in cryptic layers and leaving you thirsty for meaning like she was at that time. Now, with the world in the chaos it feels like it is, is the time to be literal and to quench the need by hitting at the heart of it.

The same with Joanne, and I feel like even Come To Mama, there is a literal and simple quality to them which rightfully evokes a feeling akin to what the Beatles did during their times of musical discovery, and quite a few other artists who knew that there was a moment to be artistic, and a moment to use your art to make a frank and understandable statement.

It would be a great song to go alone with a PSA about social problems like gun violence

Its about how we are aware of all the terrible things that happen in the world  and this makes us feel lost, hopeless, and desensitized to it all so we end up doing nothing. We just stand around overwhelmed by everything we should be doing. Its also about how people are fighting for the wrong things. We should be focusing our leadership, efforts, and resources on saving the innocent, not going in circles trying to fight each other just because we have different views. "Id rather save an angel down".

Its supposed to be like that. I visualize a homeless kid or something who you pass by on the street and the image is very prominent but then you walk by and go back to your normal routine, just like the way the song abruptly ends.

I really liked the connection you made with the song, the exact images you could see as you listened. This lyric:

Doesn't everyone belong
In the arms of the sacred
Why do we pretend we're wrong?
Has our young courage faded?

Immediately and viscerally struck me and caused me to tear up. There is a heart under all of the show that is Lady Gaga. Monsters have always seen it, but now she is showing it to us bare in her hands and through her voice.

This song is full of so many images. How do you interpret the lyrics you just mentioned? I think it means that people have idealist views when they are young, they feel like they can do great things and save the world. Then, we realize that its easier to just think we were wrong about that and this gives us an excuse to just follow the normal track of life.

There is something really desperate about the lyrics to me. What you just described is pretty much exactly what I was thinking, but I also find them to be a touch hopeless. About the death of courage so quickly, not just in the youth of the world, but the young hopes in all people who struggle. That immediate defeat you feel only the next second after you get a flicker of courage to go outside your station in life. That voice which tells you either that you are wrong, or that you've struggled so much, why make things harder?

Also: All those who said that Gaga was just trying for publicity when she stood on the side of rights and personal freedoms, can eat their words. Because this song? You can't write a song like this if it isn't in your heart.

i could do without the beat coming in in the second verse, i feel like its a little distracting. but, a noteworthy song regardless. its so topical without specifically going there, just timeless. its so leonard cohen and i love that.
