You do not have to like the direction she's going in, but to say that the album is country—or any other genre that isn't pop—is just wrong. The album has influences of other genres, but that doesn't make it that genre. I sort of said this a while ago, like even before we knew anything about Perfect Illusion, but if you were expecting this album to be solely pop music, then you set yourself up for disappointment. She's expressed that she's much more than just a 'pop star', and if you were expecting that, too bad for you. Its not even a matter of opinion...it's one thing for someone not to like the new songs/snippets. That's fine. It's simply incorrect and ignorant for someone to say Joanne is an indie or country album. It's pop. It may not be your kind of pop, but it's pop. I'm glad at least some people get that pop music is NOT just the sound we have been conditioned to expect from the last ten years. I listen to everything from Crystal Gayle to Marilyn Manson to Mamamoo, and I just have to shake my head at those kind of comments. Music is so incredibly diverse, ESPECIALLY pop music.
