Messy Prince tribute w/ Xtina tonight in Minneapolis

So the "official" Prince tribute concert is happening tonight in Minneapolis, but it's messy AF. Apparently they were trying to hold it in the 50,000 seat Vikings Stadium, but that fell through and they had to downgrade to the 17,000 seat Xcel Energy Arena. The original show was being organized by Prince's former manager Gilbert Davison & Sheila E., but Prince's family pushed them out of the way so that they could call all the shots themselves. Then the whole thing almost collapsed on itself and nearly didn't happen. But they did one thing right by hiring L. Londell McMillan, who brought in the iconic Irving Azoff, who brought in longtime Minneapolis promoter Randy Levy. And that team was able to salvage the show.

Anyway, all we will see of it are fan videos because the show is not being filmed for broadcast or DVD/commercial release.

The lineup is pretty... sparse. Performers are

A-List:
Stevie Wonder

B-List:
Christina Aguilera

C-List:
Tori Kelly
Nicole Scherzinger

A-List Prince friends:
Chaka Khan
Morris Day & The Time
NPG

B-List Prince friends:
Mayte Garcia
Judith Hill
Mint Condition
Andre Cymon
Michael Phillips

Notably absent:
John Mayer (part of original lineup, but dropped out 2 days ago due to "scheduling conflicts")
The Revolution (Wendy & Lisa were busy working on music for J.Lo's TV series 'Shades of Blue')
Sheila E. (already had another gig booked)

(please note the shade behind the notably absent list! This tribute may be "going forward" but it's a shell of its former self. Prince would be appalled.)

BTW, Irving Azoff is Christina Aguilera's manager and she basically owes her sustained relevance to him. He was the one who helped her transition from the b-list Britney teen act to the iconic 'Stripped' era which gave her an identity all her own.

Anyway, I'm sure that Irving's involvement is the only reason they managed to get Christina for this.

Irving also manages tons and tons of other legends.

Gosh. Your tone for this thread sounds really negative. It IS a tribute show, so at least it is happening. Not all tribute shows have to have "A list" guests. A tribute show is meant to remember the fallen by singing his/her music, not to see who can pull the most A list, even after death.

And just because Christina is hated on this website or doesnt meet your charts criteria does not make her a B-lister. She has a very successful career at the moment with the shows she is in.

Well she isn't exactly big anymore so probably could be classed a B-list, regardless if people on here dislike her. :toofunny:

First, I love Christina... have seen her live multiple times and been a fan since day 1. I'm proud of her for still being relevant after all these years. But let's be honest, she is a B-list name at this point.

But, with this show, I have to call a spade a spade. Prince deserves better than this as his "official" tribute concert. His family clearly got in the way --- the same folks who are pimping out his home as a "museum" for the general public less than 6 months after his death.

When even Sheila E. can't be bothered to show up, you know it's a MESS.
