KarmaPolice 4,731
I'm the only one thinking that Perfect Illusion was the only song on Joanne that was requested by Interscope because they didn't feel that the album was commercial enough? I feel like they said to her "Do the music you want, but create a single that can be GP friendly and let's see how it goes" Since Kevin was called on Joanne just for this song and Gaga herself told that the song wasn't her idea but his, maybe this theory explains why it's the only one that followed this path. Now that the song went "not that good", maybe she will follow her "original plan" and promote the singles she wants? What do you think? EDIT: I like the song and I don't care about its chart success, it's just a thought

AndrewGr 6,022
I definitely wouldn't describe Kevin Parker as GP friendly. Bloodpop and Mark match more the description than him.
synched 734
I don't know. Before hearing the snippets, i was kinda thinking the same thing. But now that i've heard the snippets of Dancing in Circles and Diamond Heart, i don't think that's the case. If Interscope wanted a commercial, GP-Radio friendly first single, i feel like they would've forced her to release DIC as the first single. From what i've heard, that song sounds super radio friendly and similar to the style of what's popular today.

Well the song turned out to barely radio friendly, it's not like the psychedelic rock track like I imagined when I read the producer's names. @definthejam: but PI stands out the most above all the other tracks, it's the most different musical-style wise isn't it? Bear 7,515
I doubt they forced it too hard. We say this everytime a single goes wrong so I'm sure Gaga has learnt to trust her own instincts by now I think it's more likely that both Gaga and Interscope liked the single and thought it would be well received, but it turned out it wasn't. I don't think there is anyone to blame rather it's just one of those things.

I'm saying this because I didn't feel gaga was that passionate about this single in general. It almost felt like she didn't want to promote it because it wasn't "really hers"

Dominic 11,922
Possibly. I can understand why they pushed for it to be released first. It had the potential to 'cash in' on the recent tabloids regarding Gaga/Kinney and it seems to sounds the most 'electronic' or typically dancey on the album. It really does standout from the rest sonically (from what we know of course). The hardest thing in this world is to live in it
